5Telemedicine and Continuing Education Project
- The National Telemedicine Project has three
phases. - The first phase is the pilot program, which is
currently under implementation in some selected
sites. - The second phase will consist of the expansion of
the services to all of the regions using
university and hospitals as center. - The third phase will be the expansion of the
telemedicine network to the international link. - The pilot project focuses mainly on the
application of medical services such as
Dermatology and Radiology (Tele-Dermatology and
Tele-Radiology) that can be delivered through
telemedicine.

- Pan African e-Network
- Implementation of Tele-Education and
Tele-Medicine Systems between Indian and
Ethiopian Institutions. - EICTDA was coordinating this initiatives
- Phase one will connect Addis Ababa University,
Black Lion Hospital and one remote hospital. - Phase two 20 hospitals selected for
implementation of telemedicine project.

8Progress on ICT in the Health Sector
- Connect FMoH headquarter with LAN/WAN network
system. (in collaboration with CDC Ethiopia) - LAN system is on installation phase
- Procurement of materials are on progress for WAN
system - SNNPR has relatively better network system
- All the woredas in Tigray region have Internet
connections - Oromia planned to install LAN within their
regional health offices - Support and technical assistant are expected from
WHO in ICT area.
9Challenge of ICT in the Health Sector
- There is no separate unit responsible for ICT in
all health service hierarchy - There is no focal ICT person almost at all levels
of the health service delivery.
