What Happened?
  • Ho Chi Minh declared North Vietnam a communist
    state after forcing French colonists out in the
    early 1950s.
  • Ho Chin Minh began a campaign to unify North
  • and South Vietnam into a single communist state.
  • The US, fearing that a communist South Vietnam
  • would result in the spread of communism through
  • all Asian countries, sent troops into Vietnam.
  • The war lasted 10 years, and a total of about
  • 5.5 million people died, both American and
  • Vietnamese, as a result of the war. (Google
