Title: Smart Roads Project

1
Smart Roads Project
  • (Group Names Go Here)

2
Introduction
  • Driving on todays roads is dangerous
  • On average, one person dies for every fifty cars
    on the roads each year.
  • Over 35,000 people each year

3
Introduction
  • Drivers often need to perform many different
    tasks
  • These tasks cause distractions
  • Distracted drivers can be dangerous
  • Many of the tasks drivers perform can be
    automated
  • Automating tasks eliminates human error, and
helps drivers focus on road conditions

4
Introduction
  • Automating driving tasks is not a new idea
  • The US government sponsors an intelligent car
race in the Mojave desert each year
  • Cars must drive themselves a set distance through
    difficult, off-road terrain
  • This project focuses on supporting drivers
    instead of automatically piloting vehicles

5
What Needs To Be Done?
  • Cars need to automatically engage safety
features, such as Anti-Lock Brakes and
    Four-Wheel-Drive.
  • Cars need to alert the driver to possible delays
    and dangerous conditions
  • Cars need to recognize different drivers
    automatically, and remember driver-specific
    settings

6
What Needs To Be Done?
  • Cars need to monitor and maintain their internal
    temperature without human support
  • Cars need to automatically plot the best route to
    a desired destination
  • When a route is no longer preferable, cars need
to alert drivers and find the new best route

7
How Will It Work?
  • What you are about to see is a very high-level
    overview of the project
  • More detailed explanations and diagrams are
    available in the project report
