What Is The Breeders Award Program?

Heres what our website says

• The Breeders Award Program is set up to encourage
  the proliferation of cichlids.
• It is intended to encourage excellent breeding
  stock and to make a wide variety of cichlids more
  readily available to the general membership.

• The breeders award program adds another dimension
  of fun to the Cichlid/Catfish hobby.
• Its an opportunity to bring in fish that youve
  bred for points and collectable certificates.
• Its also an opportunity to share your fish and
  proliferate well kept species within the Ohio
  Cichlid Association and the hobby.

What the BAP is NOT

• The BAP is not a contest.there is no prize, no
  goals, nor much recognition.
• Those in the program dont look up to those with
  more points than them, nor do they look down upon
  those with fewer points.
• Its not a vehicle to garner respect, admiration,
  or street cred..

So why should you participate?

• Youll grow as an aquarist
• Youll keep a variety of fish
• The more participants, the more variety of fish
  are available to all.
• Many different ways to participate

Heres How To Participate

• Bring a bag in of your properly bred fish to an
  OCA meeting.
• Turn them in to the BAP Chairman at the monthly
  meeting.
• At the next monthly meeting youll receive a
  certificate that you can proudly display in your
  fish room and amaze your friends!
• Pretty simple huh?

Heres more detail

• Species have point values10-20-25.
• BAP requires that you bring in at least six fry
  that youve bred when you turn in a bag of BAP
  fish.
• The fish must be a pure strainwhich means that
  you didnt hybridize them.
• The fish must be alive and healthy.
• You must have them properly bagged and tagged
  with the correct information.

How To Bag Fish For BAP

• Always double bag your fish for your fellow club
  members.
• Dont use a bag buddy BAP Chairman will want to
  see your fish..not blue water.
• 1/3rd water 2/3rds Air.
• Make sure the fish are old enough to survive for
  the next person.

• Fish must be at least One inch long.

Some BAP Tips

• Make sure your fish are the correct size will
  the member who buys them be able to keep them
  alive?
• Bag your fish properly again give them a
  chance.
• Label the BAP properly check spelling and
  legibility.
• If you think the fish may be too small, wait
  another month.
• If you cant make a meeting, bring the fish the
  next month.
• If you have a shift change and cant make
  meetings for an extended period of time, talk to
  a board member or the BAP Chairman.

The Wrap Up The BAP Program is one of the most
rewarding activities we have at the Ohio Cichlid
Association. Youll learn more about fish
behavior while adding another dimension of
enjoyment to your hobby. You can participate in
different ways. Breeding different species will
expand the varieties of fish youll keep and
expand the varieties of species available to all
of us. Its not a competition and the rewards you
get are better fish husbandry skills and a
greater understanding of fish behavior/breeding.
