Application of Advanced database Concepts
  • Chevrolet databases are distributed databases for
its worldwide locations which is centrally
    managed from Chevrolets worldwide center,
providing access to data from many users at many
    locations through location transparency .
  • It is homogenous distributed database. All these
database servers are connected through dedicated
    data communication links. Chevrolet also
maintains backup server at different location.

31
Application of Advanced database Concepts (cont)
  • Several client-server architecture are applied in
our database such as file server a device that
manages file operations and is shared by each of
the client PCs attached to the LAN.
  • Another application discussed in client-server
architecture which applies to our database is
connecting databases to the web sites by placing
    orders, accessing updated pricing information.

32
Application of Advanced database Concepts (cont)
  • Data base access from clients applications, our
database was mostly worked in MS-Access that is
extensively discussed in chapter 10. It contains
    numerous examples and definitions of
    relationships, tables, queries, forms, reports,
    macros and database definitions.

33
Application of Advanced database Concepts (cont)
  • Data and Database Administration.that are
discussed in chapter 13. This would relate to any
database project, the life-cycle phase Database
planning, analysis and design were the subjects
    we developed in our team-project.
  • The most important topics in this chapter are
    Database security,recovery and deadlock.

34
Application of Advanced database Concepts (cont)
  • Chevrolet provides a data warehouse with
informational systems that are separated from
operational systems to improve performance. This
allow the internet site to provide ways in
    managing the corporation database.

and SUVs. We focused on two to three categories
    of each vehicle.
  • Brian presented the E-R and EE-R diagrams that
    demonstrated the attributes and entity
    relationship of the database
  • Gary presented the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd normal forms
    for the database.

38
Features of our database
  • Homogeneous distributed database
  • Connection through dedicated data communication
links with backup servers distributed to
    different locations.
  • Client-server architecture
  • Database connected to web sites for placing
    orders, accessing and updating information

39
  • Database warehouse with informational systems
that are separated from operational systems

their line of automobiles to suit the taste and
    culture of different countries?

42
Brians Question Answer
  • How are E-R and EER diagrams helpful in the
    process of building a database?

form and 3rd normal form in the cars example?

44
Chriss Question

    Access than in SQL?

45
Student Question Nelson G.
