History of CGCC
  • 1981 - The district purchased an 80-acre site on
    Pecos Road in Chandler.
  • 1984 - 90 million bond election provided
  • 5.4 million to begin construction of the new
  • campus.
  • 1985 - Arnette Ward, The Dean of Student
  • Services at MCC, was named Provost of
  • Chandler-Gilbert Education Center, which
  • operated as an extension of MCC.
  • November, 1987 - CGCC began offering classes on
    its new campus.
  • 1992 - MCCCD Governing Board officially changed
    the institutions name to the Chandler-Gilbert
    Community College, and named Arnette Ward
    President.

  • 1992-93 Williams Campus established at Williams
    Air Force Base after its closure.
  • 1994-95 The CGCC Aviation Center moved its
    entire program and staff to the Williams Campus.
    ASU East and CGCC began classes at the Williams
    Campus CGCC offerings included aviation and
    flight training in partnership with the
    University of North Dakota (UND).

  • 1995-96 The Sun Lakes Education Center (SLEC),
    a college extension serving the retirement
    community of Sun Lakes, began construction.
  • 1997 - The Sun Lakes Education Center (SLEC), was
    complete in the spring of 1997.

    Hesse was selected as President and Chief
    Executive Officer.

    of three new facilities the Performing Arts
    Center, Student Center, and the Baseball Diamond
    the new home of the CGCC Coyotes baseball team.

Safety in the Workplace
  • Every office/work area has an Emergency Procedure
    Guide and it should be displayed where employees
    can readily access it.
  • All employees are encouraged to use alternative
    methods of getting to work. The District office
    provides information on our TRIP Reduction plan
    via email communication.
  • Risk management All employees are required to
    attend OSHA training

  • There is training available on campus and at
    District Office Training Services. Please check
    with your supervisor regarding the specific
    training you need for your position.
