Competitive Analysis
  • MICROS Competitors
  • NCR and Squirrel
  • Strengths
  • MICROS has a larger customer base
  • MICROS has a range of products that fit every
    organization
  • Weaknesses
  • MICROS 8700 hardware is extensive and difficult
    to operate
  • MICROS 8700 isnt as new as some of their
    competitors

11
Applications
  • Comerica Park, home of the Detroit Tigers,
located in downtown Detroit's thriving sports and
entertainment district MICROS and its dealer
Marketplace Solutions, Inc. are providing more
than 350 networked Point-of-Sale (POS) terminals
with the 8700 Hospitality Management System
(HMS), automating all food and beverage sales
    areas within the 40,000-seat ballpark.

12
Applications
  • The Venetian selected MICROS because of the
company's unique experience in providing a total
    hotel-casino hospitality management solution
including not only advanced POS but also
    comprehensive systems integration. MICROS
developed key interfaces between the flexible
8700 HMS and The Venetian's property management
and surveillance systems. In addition, MICROS is
developing an interface between the 8700 HMS and
    The Venetian's customized business-critical
gaming system application for tracking major
players' activities including comp awards and
    redemptions.

13
Demonstration Packages
  • MICROS does not have any demonstration packages
on their website, however there are consultation
services, on-site training and MICROS location
training where you can get assistance with your
    needs.

14
Technology
  • MICROS may enhance their services by installing
    Windows based terminals and workstations.
  • MICROS should allow for upgrades on their 8700
systems so operations dont have to buy new
systems when its time for enhancements.

15
Resources
  • Chapters in the text book useful for this project
were Ch. 7, Food Beverage Service Applications
and Ch. 8, Food and Beverage Management
    Applications.
  • Websites useful were
  • www.micros.com

16
Key Learning Points
  • MICROS is not only in restaurant operations but
hotels, ballparks, casinos, theme parks, and
    more.
  • MICROS has other applications besides restaurant
    POS systems.
  • MICROS and its competitors have similar features
    on their systems.

17
Key Learning Points
  • In meeting my three goals, I learned that MICROS
is larger than I thought it was. I realized that
there are no distinct differences between MICROS
and other food and beverage management/application
systems, its more about their various customers
    and applications.
