Acrylic Painting
  • Basic introduction to acrylic painting.
    Objectives 1. recognize select tools for
    acrylic painting, 2. learn methods of painting
    with acrylic paint tools, 3. compose a
    painting, 4. choose color for a desired effect.
    No homework or tests. Students will be required
    to clean all work areas tools after each class.

Band
  • Students will learn music theory and the
    technique of playing in the group. Instruments
    Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone,
    Oboe, Bassoon and Percussion (Drums) Students are
    expected to practice 5 days per week.

Card Creations
  • This course will be a fun hands-on workshop where
    we will make all-occasion cards using rubber
    stamps and a variety of craft scissors. Student
    objectives 1. Demonstrate stamping a card.
    2. Create attractive cards. Students are
    welcome to bring their own supplies such as
    rubber stamps, ink pads and cardstock paper.

Debate/Speech
  • To understand and present ideas is important in
    many areas of life. We will read about current
    issues and learn to present a variety of
    viewpoints. Objective 1. Learn to identify the
    main points of an argument. 2. Prepare and
    present a speech. Reading assignments during
    class time but no homework.

Introduction to Drama
  • Students will learn 1. basic improvisation and
    speech skills, 2. to be comfortable in front of
    an audience, 3. the many elements of a
    production. 4. the various methods of drama
    presentation. Students will test their acting
    speaking skills, and develop knowledge/ability
    in costuming, make-up, set design, set building,
    etc.

Girl Talk
  • Students will 1. discuss a wide variety of topics
    from relationships to eating disorders 2. learn
    to build healthy relationships/self esteem 3.
    learn to solve problems through communication
    techniques. If you like to talk, this is the
    course for you! Well talk about all those
    embarrassing topics that you dont want to talk
    about with your parents. Youll be allowed to ask
    questions discuss answers freely. No homework.

Guy Talk
  • This course gives guys an opportunity to discuss
    issues that are important to them as they develop
    into men. The content of the course is determined
    by the students and facilitated by the teacher.
    Students are required to write reflections in a
    journal.

Keyboarding
  • Learn to type more quickly and accurately.

Library Aide
  • Provides an opportunity to assist the library
    staff in completing the normal library tasks
    special projects. Objectives 1. Learn library
    computer software 2. Learn customer service
    skills 3. Learn library cataloging
    classification systems. Students will daily work
    with computer software, books magazines. No
    HW, no tests.

Mind Games
  • You will learn the basics of chess, checkers, and
    other thought-provoking mental games. Objectives
    1. Engage in leisure activities that also
    strengthen the mind. Requirements You will take
    part in an in-class tournament at the end of the
    quarter.

Nutrition
  • Focus the importance of eating right for a
    healthy lifestyle. Objectives 1. look at the
    value of particular foods, 2. realize your own
    dietary habits, 3. record of what is eaten on a
    daily/weekly basis, 4. in-class research. This
    course is theory and research based with at least
    one field trip. No tests.

Interior Design
  • Introduction to residential commercial interior
    design. Objectives 1. define interior design 2.
    measure a space its contents 3. arrange
    contents to maximize available space 4. draw own
    design 5. learn the impact of color, texture,
    furnishings accessories on a spaces look
    feel. Minor homework. Projects done in class.
