GO GATORS A patterned polymer near-infrared
light-emitting diode made by University of
Florida chemists has an active layer containing
an ytterbium tetraphenylporphyrin complex topped
by a tris(pyrazolyl)borate ligand (shown, Ph
phenyl). The complex luminesces at 980 nm under
an applied voltage, revealing the "UF chem"
pattern when viewed with a near-IR camera.
