Define Assessment?
  • Assessment documents student learning and

  • There must be a link between student learning

Kinds of Assessment
  • Formal Assessment- standardized and controlled
assessment, such as standardized tests and tests
at the end of units in school, i.e., SATs,
    Fitnessgram in May.
  • Informal Assessment- assessment used as a
learning experience to promote growth in
knowledge and skill, i.e, self-checks and
    self-tests.
  • Formative Assessment- continuous, on-going
information and feedback to both students and
teacher about the progress of learning that takes
    place, i.e. self-checks, journaling.
  • Summative Assessment- assessment at the end of
instruction tends to be formal in nature.

5
Alternative Assessment Methods
  • Performance Assessment- students create
evaluation using a problem solving method,
application of a skills, or other learned skills
    to demonstrate learning.
  • Authentic Assessment- assessment that reflects
real-life situations, i.e. playing game of golf,
taking heart rate using heart rate monitors
    daily training logs, journals.
