Signs and Symptoms

• A wide, prancing gait.
• Hesitant, slurring, halting speech
• Involuntary movements of fingers, feet, arms,
  neck, trunk, and face.
• Clumsiness or balance problems.
• Moodiness, paranoia
• Inattention and memory loss.
• Symptoms do not appear until middle age.

Causes

• Huntingtons disease is a genetically inherited
  condition.
• Its caused by a single abnormal gene.
• It is referred to by doctors as an autosomal
  dominant disorder because only one copy of the
  defective gene is needed to produce the disease.
• If one parent has the bad gene there is a 50
  percent chance that the offspring will have the
  condition.
• Everyone who has the the gene will eventually
  develop Huntingtons if he or she lives long
  enough.

Treatment

• There is none!!!
• Although there is an organization by the name of
  HDSA (Huntingtons Disease Society of America)
  devoted entirely to researching the disease and
  the development of a cure.
• The only treatment is for the effects of the
  disease.
