William M. Usdane Award
  • Purpose
  • Recognize an individual with a severe disability
    who has exhibited outstanding achievement and
    exceptional character.
  • Criteria
  • Address how the AbilityOne Program has affected
    the nominees ability to excel in the workplace.
  • Include why the nominee is an exceptional
    employee.
  • Focus on the individuals accomplishments, not on
    the individuals disability or personal history,
    other than as it relates to obtainment of
    meaningful employment.

Evelyne Villines Award
  • Purpose
  • Recognize an individual with a severe disability
    who has advanced from work on an AbilityOne
    project into a job with private/Government sector
    employment or management within the nonprofit
    agency (NPA).
  • Criteria
  • Address how the nominee used the
    experiences/skills learned on an AbilityOne
    project to move either to a management position
    within the NPA or within private or government
    sector.
  • Employed on the job and successfully performed in
    current position for at least three months.
  • Focus on the individuals accomplishments, not on
    the individuals disability or personal history,
    other than as it relates to obtaining meaningful
    employment.

Government Award for Services Military
  • Purpose
  • Recognize a local military organization that has
    provided outstanding support to the AbilityOne
    Program for services inside one U.S. State or
    Territory.
  • Criteria
  • Judged on how the local military organization
    supports the AbilityOne Program and the efforts
    of its NPA(s) in expanding and/or increasing
    employment opportunities for people with severe
    disabilities.

Government Award for State/Local Officials
  • Purpose
  • Encourage state and local government
    officials/policymakers to develop relationships
    with AbilityOne producing NPAs. Encourage those
    officials to support local NPAs and AbilityOne
    Program efforts. Recognize those officials for
    NPA relationships and program support. Recognize
    NPAs with relationships with state/local
    government officials and encourage legislation
    that supports the AbilityOne Program mission.
  • Criteria
  • Designed to recognize an individual in a state or
    local region for going above and beyond in
    support of people who have severe disabilities.
    Producing NPAs in the AbilityOne Program are
    expected to nominate qualified individuals.

Performance Excellence in Government Contracts
Award
  • Purpose
  • Recognize excellence in AbilityOne contract
    performance and serve as an example to other
    NPAs.
  • Criteria
  • An NPAs reputation as a dependable vendor
    providing quality services or products to the
    federal government enhances the reputation of all
    people with severe disabilities as exceptional
    employees in our society. Entries should show
    what the NPA has done to help achieve such a
    reputation.

Performance Excellence in Developing Human
Potential Award
  • Purpose
  • Recognize and encourage what the NPA has done to
    promote the upward mobility of people with severe
    disabilities, not only within the AbilityOne
    Program but also within the NPA and its
    community.
  • Criteria
  • Describe how the NPA has encouraged and promoted
    upward mobility and/or advancement of people with
    severe disabilities. Judged on what the NPA has
    done to train, develop, support and promote
    people with disabilities.

Performance Excellence in Using the AbilityOne
Program to Further Its Mission Award
  • Purpose
  • Recognize and promote general awareness of the
    contributions of the NPA and how the AbilityOne
    Program supports the mission of the NPA. This
    award focuses on how the AbilityOne Program
    specifically supports the mission of the NPA and
    the overall effort to support people with severe
    disabilities.
  • Criteria
  • Should address impact the AbilityOne Program had
    on NPAs ability to fulfill and advance its
    mission in support of people with severe
    disabilities. The Awards Committee will consider
    systematic changes to the NPA that have been
    encouraged and/or supported by the program.

Professional Excellence in Rehabilitation
(Non-NPA) Award
  • Purpose
  • Recognize a government employee, or other
    professional employee, who has exhibited
    excellence in assisting people with severe
    disabilities to achieve their full potential.
  • Criteria
  • Describe how nominee has gone beyond the job
    requirements to assist people with disabilities
    in achieving their full potential.

Milton Cohen Leadership Award
  • Purpose
  • Recognize an individual within the AbilityOne
    community of CRPs who has demonstrated national
    leadership, in or on behalf of the AbilityOne
    Program, with impact across the entire AbilityOne
    community and enhanced employment opportunities
    for persons with disabilities.
  • Criteria
  • Entries should address the nominees
    contributions through activities such as, but not
    limited to, the following
  • affecting changes in policy
  • advocating within federal agencies
  • effectively working with national
    companies/corporations
  • impacting federal procurement activities
  • developing or implementing innovative assistive
    technology that is replicated nationally
  • other exceptional leadership accomplishments

Management Excellence Award
  • Purpose
  • Recognize an individual from within the
    AbilityOne family of Community Rehabilitation
    Programs (CRPs) in each region who has
    demonstrated excellence in leadership in the
    management of a participating CRP by
    significantly enhancing the employment
    opportunities for people with severe
    disabilities.
  • Criteria
  • The nominee must have significantly increased
    employment opportunities in one or more of the
    following ways
  • through an expansion of AbilityOne contracts
  • through substantial increases in competitive
    placements outside the CRP
  • through substantial increases in supported
    employment placements outside the CRP
  • by using AbilityOne contracts as a base from
    which to increase contracts with state government
    or private industry
  • through advocacy efforts at the local, state or
    national levels
  • through innovative management practices

E.R. "Dick" Alley Career Achievement Award
  • Purpose
  • Recognize individuals who have provided
    extraordinary achievement and sustained effort in
    utilizing the Federal procurement system to
    create employment and training opportunities for
    people who are blind or have other severe
    disabilities under the JWOD Program.
  • Criteria
  • Consistent, dedicated service in the form of
    specific actions which have materially advanced
    the employment of people who are blind or have
    other severe disabilities through the JWOD
    Program over a substantial number of years.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of personal integrity,
    as well as exceptional knowledge and
    understanding of the JWOD Program.
  • Establishes/maintains cooperative relationships
    with the members of the JWOD team (Committee,
    NIB, NISH, nonprofit agencies, Federal
    customers).

Outstanding Contributions Award
  • Purpose
  • Publicly honor Federal personnel who have shown
    exemplary support of the JWOD Program.
  • Criteria
  • Nominations are submitted by NIB and NISH to the
    Committee staff, who makes the final decision in
    naming the award Recipients based on a narrative
    addressing the individual's accomplishments, such
    as their knowledge of the JWOD Program the
    number of additions they have made to the
    procurement list and number of jobs created and
    proactive support of JWOD through training
    sessions, referrals, and public speaking.
