Location and Climate

• Machu Picchu is located high in the Andes
  Mountains of Peru
• The Surrounding mountainous area is covered in a
  dense brush
• Climate is subtropical and there are many dense
  rainforests
• Temperature is mild, warm and damp with heaviest
  rain falls being in the months of of November
  through March
• The months from April through October bring drier
  weather with hot temperatures

What Was It Used For?

• Machu Picchu is was mainly used as a royal estate
  and religious retreat
• Built between 1460-1470 by Pachacuti Inca
  Yupanqui (an incan ruler)
• City is 6,000 feet above the Urubamba River.

Structural Buildings

• The city Machu Picchu has about 200 buildings,
  most of these residential houses, and some
  temples,storage houses some other public
  buildings.
• Most of the structures were built out of granite,
  which were cut by bronze or stone tools. They
  would then smooth the rocks out with sand to make
  them fit perfectly together. Although most of the
  stones have many different corners and would
  normally not have fit together they do with out
  any mortar.Exsisting natural stone work was used
  in most structures of the buildings

• 1,200 people lived in and around the city of
  Machu Picchu, most of them are women, children
  and Priests
