KIDS Purpose

• The KIDS system is being implemented to collect
  individual data on students in support of NCLB,
  IDEA, Safe and Drug Free Schools, EDEN, and other
  state and federal reporting requirements.
• Additional goals of the system are to increase
  data quality and decrease the burden on districts
  by minimizing redundant reporting requirements.

Quality Education Data System

• The education enterprise is one of the largest
  enterprises in a state.No enterprise can reach
  its full potential without actionable data.
• Provided to teachers, administrators, policy
  makers, and parents.
• Used for program evaluation (Tom Luce, USDOE
  Assistant Secretary, Office of Planning,
  Evaluation and Policy Development).
• Standards are needed for data systems as well as
  for curriculum and assessment systems.
• Collection and reporting of data.
• Auditing data quality.
