  • Making tape casts is a trick I first figured out
as a kid bored at school with crayons and later
decided to use it to create a tape species as a
public art project in Rio de Janeiro. I live in
    Washington DC.

FAQS MARK JENKINS daylightdrama_at_yahoo.com
  • Q When you get to the point of cutting the cast
off a live person, do you have any tricks for
making sure their clothes/skin don't get sliced?
  • A Try bandage scissors. They're designed to
    protect the skin/clothes.
  • Q I am a boy scout from Germany and I'd love to
copy your tape sculptures for an art weekend with
our kids. I also read the "How to" article about
the giraffe, but i wonder how it gets the
stability to stand like it does. It says
something about plastic strips? But what are
these? Do u have to buy them? I think I've never
heard of "plastic stripes" in stores...
  • A You can get this plastic by cutting out the
center portion of plastic beverage bottles (and
then cut again into strips). Put the strips in
areas that carry the most weight. With the
giraffe this is the legs and lower neck.
  • Q Yes, I've read your FAQ, but what do I do with
the plastic strips? Do I glue them in the
outside part or in the inside part of the
sculpture? Do i glue them together to make a
stick to stand the sculpture? How do I use the
    plastic stripes?
  • A Strips should be imbedded between the layers
of tape. Cross hatching strips works well too.
  • Q What's the best way to put a light inside a
    tape sculpture?
  • A For internal lighting use a low-heat light
    source such as LED's.
