Why we are here
  • We feel that an improvement of at least a factor
of 2 can be achieved at BNL,
  • with reasonable cost
  • and reasonable running time
  • Lets look at where we came from

5
Where we came from
6
Today with ee- based theory
All E821 results were obtained with a blind
analysis.

In March DH,JM,LR,WM went to DOE/NSF
  • We presented what we have done in E821
  • We discussed the proposal to improve on aµ down
    to 0.25 ppm
  • Bill Marciano gave a strong physics argument of
why 0.25 is a well motivated goal.
  • Our argument was that with modest improvements we
    could reach this goal.

Other hadronic improvements
  • BaBar is also using radiative return. The ISR
photon is very hard. They have lots of data, but
have to replace their muon chambers.
  • Novosibirsk is upgrading the machine and the
    detector.

17
Experimental Improvements
  • use 5.2 p GeV beam and take backward µ decays.
  • improve ?a and ?p systematic errors to 0.1 ppm.
  • open the inflector ends.
  • improve the kicker?

we never saw this efficiency turn over. can we
improve the storage rate by an additional kicker?

detectors/electroincs
  • can we improve the detectors?
  • or use the Q method?
  • New electronics
  • muLaN electronics

24
Welcome to each of you
  • We have many challenges to deal with to reach the
    new goal.
