Improving E-ZBorrow Searching

• What works locally doesnt work globally.
• Get University of Chicago or Gannon patron
  screen.
• Encourage exact match searching
• Right truncation vs keyword searching
• E-ZBorrow is set for right truncation left
  anchor searching
• Geac, Voyager, III do support right truncation
  left anchor searching
• Sirsi and Dynix/Horizon only support Keyword
  searching

Improving E-ZBorrow Searching

• Encourage your local system vendor to implement
  the NISO Z39.50 National Profile (Bath Profile)
• Be willing to pay for the National Profile
  implementation
• Re - Index your local system database to support
  the searches supported in the National Z39.50
  profile.

National Circulation Interface Protocol (NCIP)

• Standard to allow the exchange of circ, patron,
  bib and item information between different local
  systems
• DCB3 Direct Consortial Borrowing profile 3
• PALCI was the testbed for
• Duquesne and E-ZBorrow and Sirsi NT
• York and E-ZBorrow and Sirsi Unix

National Circulation Interface Protocol (NCIP)

• PALCI has offered to be the testbed site for any
  other local system vendor who is ready.
• Endeavor will be ready to test this summer.
• TLC will be ready to test in late summer.
• Good news! Endeavor says there will be no
  additional cost for NCIP for those libraries who
  already use 3M CIP.
• More good news! Sirsi will sell NCIP for less
  than Dynix sells its mapping service.
