Spoken Language
  • Words such as schooner, middy, shot,

    this vicinity.
  • Bar staff speak and interact with their customers
on a personal level. Their greeting is usually
How are you?, What would you like? or How
    can I help?
  • The most notable form of language used was
    colloquialism.
  • Although much of the setting had a very relaxed
and casual feel to it, there was always a high
level of courtesy shown towards each other.
  • The comfortable atmosphere of the location
allowed for the use of informal speech and
    sentence structure between people.
  • Conversations vastly consisted of personal
pronoun appliance. (I, me, we, us, they, them)

14
Investigation
  • The investigation has found that this place is
not wheelchair friendly. This is the case because
there are no ramps for wheelchairs to access, the
restaurant is up stairs and there is no elevator.
So if they wanted to go to the restaurant they
would have to rely on someone carrying them up,
    or not go at all.

15
Investigation
  • Language is clearly applied for social function.
  • The rich experience facilitated the exploration
of language as a social context and aided in the
understanding that semiotic systems, signs and
general conversations play a vast role in
    literacy events.
