EVENTS THAT LEAD TO THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION
I am currently thinking of how we shall revolt
against them
We really Hate those Brits!
I dont think anyone knows Im picking my
nose.theyre too worried about Britain.

• AKA What ticks off Colonists so much that they
  revolt from Britain!

Before Britain gets all up in the Colonists
bis-nass, things are going pretty well
Isnt life grand, dear?

• The standard of living in the colonies was among
  the highest in the world.
• There was an abundance of land to be had.
• Since things were so good in England, they were
  used to governing themselves
• The main threats to the colonists (French and
  Indians) had been removed

• 1754-1763
• Many colonists fight alongside the British and
  are even trained by them!
• George Washington made a name for himself

What were the effects of the F I War?

• Britain gets a ton of land!
• Removes the threat from the West!
• BUTwars cost money

Now that the war was over the colonists began
viewing the Mother Country a little differently

• 1st of all, England was now broke from fighting
  this long war and they needed money. They wanted
  the 2 million colonists to pay 1/3 of the costs
• They decided to end salutary neglect
• i.e. they started enforcing the laws.

The colonists really start getting frustrated as
more taxes are enacted

• Form the sons of liberty
• Develop non-importation agreements which really
  hurt British merchants
• Coin the phrase No taxation without
  representation.
• But that was sort of a sham
• Notice the enlightenment thinking here

• 1 Brit soldier mobbed by crowed of angry
  colonists
• Throwing Snow/Ice
• Yelling
• Two more Brits come to help
• One Slips, Gun goes off
• British soldiers begin firing
• 5 Colonists die

• Boston Tea Party 1773
• Colonists must purchase tea from East India Tea
  Company.
• ACTUALLY the tax was a mere 3 pence for a
  poundbarely anythingthe tea was actually
  cheaper now!
• Sam Sons of Liberty (i.e. smugglers) dress as
  Indians throw 15,000 lbs of tea into the
  harbor.

Colonists get some COMMON SENSE in 1776
Nowhere in the physical universe did the smaller
heavenly body control the larger one. Then why
should the tiny island of England control the
vast continent of America?

• Common Sense 47 page pamphlet telling of all
  the wrongs the king has committed.
• Before only Boston hated the King.
• Now all colonies know how bad he is!
• Caused a wide spread want for REVOLUTION
