Black panthers and Jaguars are the top predators
of the rainforest. They feed on wild bore and
smaller creatures.
Chameleons feed on ants and other insects of the
rainforest. Pictures to the right, leaf cutter
ants carry leaves to their den.

The average temperature of the rainforest is
between 20 and 35 degrees Celsius There are
over 180 different types of trees in the
rainforest The average rainfall in the
rainforest is between 1.5 and 10 meters The
rainforest is home to 50 of all species Over
200 types of beetle were discovered in one tree
One square meter of rainforest supports 45 to 80
kg of biomass One hectare of rainforests can
contain over 200 species of tree.

7The Extinct Panther
If the panther were to go extinct somehow, the
whole rainforest would be affected. There would
be a huge boom in the snake population. This
increase of snakes would lower the bird
population in the rainforest, which would
heighten the insect population. Trees would be
crawling with little insects eating its leaves.
An added increase in ant eater population would
also take place, along with chameleons. Without
as many predators, some species would over
populate and possibly die out.
