WELCOME
  • To Wallaces Wild West

Meet Mrs. Wallace
  • Howdy! Welcome to third grade. I am Mrs.
Wallace, your teacher this year. Just a little
to let you know something about me I grew up in
Park Hills, when it was Flat River. I went to
Central from kindergarten until tenth grade. I
had to move to Illinois for quite a while. I
started teaching there in 1994 and finally in
2005, I moved back here, what I call home. I am
very happy to be back here.
  • I have three children. Ethan, who is a senior
this year at Central. Michael, who is in fifth
grade at NC intermediate, and Payton, who is the
brand new boss of the family. She is a year old
    and keeps us all busy.
  • In my years of teaching, I have taught first
grade, fourth grade, fifth grade, sixth grade,
and now third grade. I was in a small school
district in Illinois so teaching different levels
would depend on exactly where they needed you to
    move that year.
  • I enjoy teaching third graders, they still have
the need to hug you and havent quite learned to
disrespect you yet. At the same time, they are
old enough to do more interesting and difficult
    activities with.
  • I am looking forward to getting to know everyone
this year and having fun while we are learning at
the same time. I invite any parents to visit our
classroom to get firsthand what we are doing
    every day.
  • Lets have a great year!!!!

3
Rules of the Ranch
  • All third grade ranchers are expected to follow
three simple but very important guidelines
  • Be respectful
  • Be responsible
  • Be a ready and safe Raider
  • We will be using positive reinforcements in class
this year. Each child will be able to take their
    horse barrel racing for rewards.

4
What we will study
  • The third grade year is a very important one.
This is the first year the students will take the
    MAP test.
  • Much of our focus will be on reading, spelling,
    language arts and writing.
  • Math is our other main subject, also getting
    ready for the MAP.
  • We will also spend some time with science and
social studies, learning about the Solar System,
Our government, Missouri, and plants and
ecosystems just to name a few.

5
Science
  • We will learn together as we study about animals,
the food chain, the plants life cycle, the earth,
sun and the moon phases, and what matter is and
how it can change. Along with many other things
we will explore in third grade science!

6
Social Studies
  • In Social Studies, we will learn about our
community, Desloge. We will learn how Desloge is
alike and different from other communities in the
United States. We will learn about what states
surround Missouri, touch on the branches of the
government, learn about the US Constitution, and
    learn how to read maps.

7
Writers Workshop
  • In Writers Workshop we will learn the writing
    process.
  • We will brainstorm, plan, write rough drafts,
    edit, revise and publish stories.
  • We will share what we write aloud with our
    classmates.
  • We will also publish our work and make some
    class books.

8
Math
  • We will work together to become math experts in
    McMillan-McGraw Hill math
  • series. We will learn to regroup while
subtracting. We will work to memorize our
multiplication facts, and have an ice cream
sundae party at the end of the year for our hard
    work.

9
Special Classes
  • Special Classes consist of Music, Physical
    Education, Library, and Art
  • Each day we will attend special class for 50
    minutes
  • A schedule will be sent home the first week of
    school.

10
Lunch
  • Hot lunches are prepared daily in the cafeteria.
These lunches provide all the necessary nutrition
for a healthy diet. Students will be charged
2.00 for a lunch and 1.25 for breakfast.
Students who bring their lunch will need money
to purchase milk. Applications for free or
reduced lunches are made available to all
    families.

11
Afternoon Dismissal
  • We will dismiss pick-ups and walkers at 240.
Each student who rides a bus will be dismissed as
that bus arrives on the school lot .

12
Homework
  • Homework will be assigned every Monday Thursday.
Homework for the week will be on the newsletter
every Monday. Homework is due at 815 each
morning. Any homework not completed will need to
be completed during the first recess. Students
turning in homework in on time for the whole week
will receive a Star ticket, which will be placed
in a drawing for a special prize.

13
Communication
  • I feel communication is essential for the success
of our students. I will send a weekly newsletter
that will contain information about what we are
doing in each subject, spelling words, upcoming
test or projects, etc.. Your child will also be
bringing home a RODEO book to help with
    communication between school and home.
    Information
  • about the RODEO book is in the packet you
    received tonight.

14
Communication
  • I will use my webpage as a form of communication
between school and home. You may access my
    webpage at www.ncsd.k12.mo.us./NCDE/Classroom/wall
ace/ You may email me at rwallace_at_ncsd.k12.mo.us
or call at 431-3300. My plan time will be at 140
230 everyday. I will be happy to answer any
questions or concerns or we can set up a
    conference.

15
Volunteers
  • I can always use volunteers, parents or
grandparents! If you are able to help at school,
please let me know. You will need to have a
background check before you are allowed to
volunteer. I appreciate and welcome parents help.
