• James Naismith was born in Almonte, Ontario,
  Nov.6 1861 and died on Nov.28, 1939.

The Invention of Basketball

• James invented basketball because
• - there were only two sports being played in
  Canada and he wanted Canada to have more
  fun-oriented activities,
• - he invented the ball before he invented the
  game of basketball. He believed he needed a game
  to go with his ball.

Inventing the Game!

• James had to use two peach baskets for the nets
  and a ladder to get the ball down from the
  baskets. He had the idea to cut the bottom out
  of the baskets so the game could not be stalled
  as long. But still a problem existed !

Fixing the Problem

• The ball could not fit through the bottom of the
  basket. James kept cutting the baskets until
  they looked right. He was left with a rim of
  wood. He attached pieces of rope to the rim and
  the problems were fixed.
