Irmo Elementary Honey Bunch After-School Program
  • Mission Statement
  • To provide after school care in a nurturing and
safe environment that supports growth as learners
    within a community of character.

3
Program Overview
  • The after school program was established as a
    service for working parents.
  • Our program will strive to promote a safe, caring
and respectful educational environment for our
children through the use of innovative teaching
strategies and programs that are designed to
provide opportunities for success of our
    children.
  • The staff members are responsible and accountable
for the day-to-day operations of the program.
Questions, concerns and suggestions should be
directed initially to the director, Mr. John
Goodale, assistant director, Darrel Linder or
bookkeeper, Sandy Smith. This can be done by note
or when you pick up your child(ren). The
principal is also available to you, but your
first source of information should be the
    director/asst. director/bookkeeper of the
    program.
  • Students will be directed to the gym or other
assigned area each day by the classroom teachers
at 240 p.m. Parents should send a note or call
the school on those days that students are at
school but will not be remaining for the
After-School Program. It is very important that
    parents comply with this request.
  • Staff and Adult/Student Ratios
  • Our staff is here to ensure that each child
achieves success and to provide them with a safe
learning environment with our adult/student ratio
being 110. Our hard working staff includes IES
teachers, staff members and other trained staff.

  • ROTATION SCHEDULE
  • The Honey Bunch Program will offer daily periods
that promote cooperative and hands-on activities
in areas to help students develop socially,
    cognitively, physically and emotionally.
  • SNACKS
  • Our program will offer a variety of nutritious
snacks after school. If snacks are brought from
home due to special dietary needs, they are to be
eaten during the designated snack time.
  • During all-day sessions, we will provide a
morning and afternoon snack. Children are
required to bring their lunch on these days,
unless provided as part of a field trip. Neither
a microwave nor a refrigerator are available.
  • Parents should contact and notify the
    after-school program administration concerning
    special dietary needs.

5
Field Trips
  • Field Trips are scheduled during the year,
these usually will occur on Student Holidays.
Some field trips may require fees and parents
will be notified in advanced if field trip fees
are needed. Parents must fill out and return a
Field Trip Permission Form to ride on the bus
    and participate.

6
After School Camps
  • Honey Bunch will offer After School Camps to
those interested. Earwood Karate, Young Chefs
Academy and Private Piano Lesson (Elise Helms)
are scheduled to offer monthly services as part
of an addition to our Honey Bunch Program.
  • Payments are to be made to the company or
individual providing the service. Camps begin in
    September.
  • Earwood Karate Every Tuesday (330-430) - 40
    per month.
  • Young Chefs Academy Every Thursday (330-430)
    - 45 per month.
  • Private Piano Lesson (Elise Helms) 30 min.
    lesson, once p/wk - 70 p/month.

7
Health Concerns
  • If your child has any medical conditions
(allergies material/food, etc. or medical issues,
asthma, etc) the director must be notified.
  • Any child showing signs of illness will be
isolated until he/she leaves the school. A staff
member will comfort and observe the child
    periodically.
  • Honey Bunch personnel shall administer or obtain
immediate treatment for a child if necessary. If
necessary, 911 will be called. In addition, the
    childs parents will be notified.
  • If your child needs to take medication of any
type, the district policy regarding medication
must be followed. Proper forms must be completed,
and the director of the program notified.

8
Discipline
  • Proper behavior is expected and discipline
policies will be enforced during the after-school
program. We will give special emphasis to the
    following quidelines
  • Be polite
  • Respect others
  • Follow directions
  • Keep hands, feet and other objects to yourself
  • Use soft voices inside the school
  • If a child is unable to comply with the behavior
expectations, a referral note will be sent home.
Depending on the severity of the behavior
referral, the parent/guardian will be notified
    immediately, or at pick-up.
  • If after the above referral, the child is still
unable to comply with the behavior expectations,
the program director will set up a conference
with the parent/guardian. A behavior contract
will be established and signed by the child (if
    appropriate), parent/guardian and the program
    director.
  • If the childs behavior continues to be
disruptive and/or unsafe, the child will be
subject to suspension or dismissal from Honey
    Bunch.
  • Failure of the parent/guardian to attend
conference(s) and cooperate will subject the
child to suspension or dismissal from Honey Bunch.

    student.
  • If someone other than the parent(s) comes to pick
up a child, a staff employee will check the

the parent for approval. When calling ahead to
authorize pick-up by someone not on the list,

    information regarding that person.
  • There will be an additional charge of 1.00 for

  • Please realize that our staff members have
families and commitments. Should your child be
left for an extended period of time, a law
enforcement agency will be contacted. Your
understanding and cooperation in this most
