2Writers Notebook Entry
- Write the name of a teacher who influenced you.
- Jot down a list of everything you remember about
him/her.
3Perfection is Overrated
- One of the things I share in my workshops is the
idea that it is OK to let go of that high-school
English teacher who lives in your head. The one
who's always correcting your sentence structure,
making sure you have a proper noun and verb in
every sentence, reprimanding you when you don't
follow the 'rules.' Maybe it's even time for you
to have a short conversation with that teacher
(in your own mind, of course). Mr. Or Mrs.
So-and-So Thank you for your time, but I am
done with your services now. - -- from Life Artist by Ali Edwards
4Invite Imperfection

classroom to make it a refuge for your students? - How can we make students feel that they are okay
just the way they are?

36Do not let your fire go out, spark by
irreplaceable spark, in the hopeless swamps of
the approximate, the not-quite, the not-yet, the
not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul
perish, in lonely frustration for the life you
deserved, but have never been able to reach.
Check your road and the nature of your battle.
The world you desired can be won. It exists, it
is real, it is possible, it is yours.
