    Donor Education programmes expanded throughout
    the Island.

  • For Platelet demand - short mobile concept,
    Platelet Donor Club introduced and one fixed site
    collection is going to start
  • Apheresis donor Data Base for platelets
    throughout the country.
  • New leaflet introduced for distribution among
    patients to encourage for voluntary donations.

RRI Project in Sri Lanka
  • NBTS Sri Lanka undertook this approach in 3
    phases to accelerate achieving its long term
    goals by 2008
  • - To increase blood collection to 300,000
  • - To reach 100 VNRBD
  • - To increase regular donors

SCREENING OF COLLECTED BLOOD
  • Screening for following infections is mandatory
    for each
  • unit of collected blood

(i) HIV I II - Antibody testing
by ELISA
(ii) Hepatitis B - Surface Antigen
(iii) Syphilis - VDRL Test confirmed by TPPA
(iv) Malaria - Thick Thin Film Testing
  • Screening for Hepatitis C introduced in few
    centers since 2003
  • with JBIC Project (Pilot Study)
