  • Make a universal statement about your topic
    relating to your hook.
  • How is your universal statement represented in
    literature?
  • How is your universal and literary connection
represented in the text you are reading?
  • Insert your thesis statement.
  • For more help, view the PowerPoint Presentation.

7
Conclusion Paragraph
  • Restate your thesis statement (new words,
    concise).
  • Restate your literary connection (new words,
    concise).
  • Restate universal connection (new words, with
    detail).
  • Explain why topic/your point is important to
    understand.
  • So what? Extend discussion of the importance of
    topic.
  • Do not use 1st (I, me, us, we, etc.) or 2nd (you,
    etc.) person.
  • If it helps, you may initially write using
phrases like I think or you will discover
but make sure you REMOVE them from your paper
    BEFORE you turn it in!

How to Insert a Quotation
  • To insert a quotation into your writing, follow
    these steps
  • Introduce/Set up your quotation This sentence or
two might include background information the
reader needs to know to understand the quotation,
link your topic to the subject of the quotation,
or help the quotation flow with your writing
  • Insert the quotation using proper in-text or
block quotation formatting To determine what
formatting you need to use, see the in-text quote
    or block quote sections
  • Explain what the quotation means Use your own
words to explain the point of the quotation or
    what the quotation means
  • Connect the quotation to your topic/thesis
sentence Explain how this quotation relates to
your topic sentence (the 1st sentence in this
body paragraph) or the thesis sentence (the last
    sentence in your introduction paragraph)\

5. Connect the quotation to your analysis
point Explain how this quotation
relates to the major point you are analyzing
in your paper.
This should be the major focus of your writing
and constitute the
largest portion of your paper.

Step 5 is for
advanced writing only.
