determine importance and synthesize are
strategies our students are continuing to
practice. - First quarter resulted in Gerace staff
establishing clear understanding that inferential
thinking helps readers to predict, surface themes
and draw conclusions. - Teachers are using essential questioning
techniques to promote active thinking. Reading
Specialist conducted lesson on the Titanic to
demonstrate this. Question- Could this tragedy
have been prevented?
27What Are We Doing With The Data?Second Quarter
Actions as a result of First Quarter Data

PROMPTS into their Language Arts Instruction-
focusing on the poem and picture prompts cluster
areas as seen on NJASK 3 4 - Grades 3- 4 are incorporating open ended math
questions into their math instruction focusing on
identifying strategies and communication your
answers into words - Grades 3 - 5 mapped out on a calendar math
instruction from early January to date of state
test to assure all skills are being addressed
prior to the state assessment - Grades 2-5 distributed spicy words to all
students and incorporated activities using these
words daily. Activities include using them in a
sentence, defining and spelling. - Data driven instruction is part of staff daily

watch and concern lists - Grade level teachers meet frequently to align
plans with best practices for teaching and each
other - Grade four teachers recognize the need for a
writing program. Conduct workshop for district
and staff. - Gerace staff on board for review and
implementation of formalized writing program - Test analysis for the 06 results demonstrate 6
points improvement from 05. The data analysis
conducted by building principal, MLSP and Reading
Specialist demonstrate that when analysis of the
cluster areas was conducted on the LAL, our
students present weaknesses in the area of
writing (picture prompts and poetry) Time is of
the essence- we must implement a unified writing
program district wide. - Active teaching equates to active learning-
students are engaged, stimulated and motivated in
all areas of active literacy! Our students
engage in cooperative activities.
