  • Date of Birth May 8, 1930
  • Place of Birth San Francisco, CA
  • Education Gary Snyder got a BA in Literature and
    one in Anthropology at Reed collage. He studied
    Asian culture and languages at U.C. Berkeley. He
    also learned from Oda Sesso Roshi, a Zen master.
  • Jobs Gary Snyder worked at least ten jobs,
    including his current job in the Creative Writing
    Program and the Department of English at U.C.
    Berkeley.
  • Influences Japan, the beat group, nature, and
    Zen Buddhism, his religion.
  • Gary Snyder had at least four wives. His current
    wife, ( according to http//wwwenglish.ucdavis.edu
    /Faculty/snyder/a brief biography.htm) is Carole
    Coda.
  • Gary Snyder had two sons named Gen and Kai, both
    from his marriage to Masa Uehara. He also has
