• Beethoven as composer who bridged the gap between
  the Classical and the Romantic period.

Beethoven in 1819

• During his lifetime he composed many songs
  including Sonata Quasi Fantasia (Moonlight
  Sonata).
• It was written for Countess Giulietta Guicciardi.

Social Ranking

• Born in a musical family. The reason he never
  had a social rank is because being a composer was
  not seen as a favorable position, and beside
  being a composer he never had a job.

• Three Periods of music
• First period, was entirely chamber music.
• Second period, started with the sonatas.
• Third period, composed his symphonies.

• I believe he was the start of the Romantic
  Period.
• Romantic Period only started around 1820
• He composed his first sonata in 1801 for Countess
  Giulietta.

Misery of Beethoven

• He was never married.
• Was said to have proposed marriage to a few
  women.
• Was always denied by their fathers because he had
  no social rank.

• Deafness was a terrible thing for his profession.
• For almost two years Beethoven restrained himself
  from any social gathering.

• His music was blunt, loud, and expressive.
• He wasnt afraid to express himself.
• He was the composer who started the transition
  between the classical and the romantic period.
