The basics

• Skin largest sense organ.
• Hair used for warmth and cooling down. When
  there is no hair, there are fingerprints.
• Is filled with nerve endings that give you info
  on things with which your body comes in contact.

Touch

• Originates in bottom layer of skin, called
  dermis.
• Cutaneous receptors nerve receptors in skin that
  respond to pressure, temperature or pain.
• Works with hypothalamus.

Diseases/Disorders

• Attention Deficit Disorder Associated with
  making sense of touch more sensitive than other
  people. (symptom)
• Tactile Defensiveness people with this tend to
  react negatively to sensation of touch and
  possibly trigger anxiety or panic.
• Sensory Integrative Dysfunction usually in kids
  who have under or over sensitivity to touch.
  Connected with dysfunction in nervous system.

Other Skin Disorders

• Acne pimples, blackheads.
• Skin Cancer when skin is exposed to too many UV
  rays.
• Dermatitis Rash forms, usually on chest, elbow,
  and/or knees. May be caused by bodys immune
  response attacking itself.

Interesting Facts

• You have more pain nerve endings than any other
  type.
• Touch of any kind can reduce heart rate lower
  blood pressure.
• Touch stimulates endorphins which is why a
  mother hugs her child, to make him/her feel
  better about a skinned knee etc.
• There are 5 million receptors in our skin- 3000
  in a fingertip.
