WHEN WAS THE COUNCIL FORMED

• The Council was set up in 1994
• Formed as an advisor to the Minister of Commerce,
  Business Development Investment
• PASC Membership

FUNCTIONS OF THE COUNCIL

• Established as an Advisory Council to consider
  and recommend to the Minister of Commerce Fiji
  Standards
• Before a standard is promulgated all stakeholders
  are consulted

RECOMMENDATION THAT COUNCIL CAN MAKE TO MINISTER

• Apart from Standards the Council can recommend
  the following to the Minister
• Issuance of Defect Notices
• Declaration of Dangerous Goods
• Temporary Bans

• National Building Code
• Temporary Ban
• - Fireworks/Firecrackers
• Declaration of Dangerous Goods
• - In 1999 a certain brand of Cigarette Lighter
