Title: World%20History%20Humanities%20Portfolio
1World History Humanities Portfolio
- 2nd Semester 2005-2006
- Melissa
- Sophomore
- Port Charlotte Seventh Day Adventist School
2Introduction
- This year in World History Humanities has been a
tough one. I have enjoyed doing the J2E
assignments. They have really enriched my brain
into thinking in a way that I never have had to
before. Ae21 has been quite hard and definitely a
huge change. It was a change because without a
teacher actually being here that we can ask
questions, and be there for us when we need a
teacher. I really enjoyed this type of program as
a way to meet people and giving us a new way to
think and do work and such and such. All of the
journals and other assignments have helped me use
my typing skills which I was horrible at, and my
grammar skills which I never had quite a good
teacher before. This year has taught me a lot
also about servant leadership and how to be a
good leader. I learned that It takes time and
patience. It also takes a lot of change from when
you first attempted to be a servant leader. It
takes a lot of work and not everyone is cut out
to doing it. I learned about leaving the right
kind of legacy. There are many legacies you can
leave but you must choose the right one and how
to leave it.

6Acceptance of God
- Surrender ones whole life to God, develop a
relationship with Jesus Christ and allow the
holy spirit to work in ones life. - For this assignment I felt that the two
assignments that were most fitting were j2e files
4/12 and jfft 2/14
7Acceptance of God Artifacts
8Acceptance of God Reflections
- There were many assignments in which I felt could
go under this j2e goal. To me, acceptance of God
means giving your whole life to God. It means
just letting go and letting God handle
everything. This sounds all fine and dandy, but
it is very hard to actually do. These assignments
have given me a chance to submit more and more to
God. Since He is the ultimate being, I do not
need to try and outdo Him. I never could, its
impossible. I thought that these two assignments
were the best chosen ones for the first goal.
These assignments were, I hate to say it, but
assignments that I would have rather skipped.
Generally people, myself included, would have
loved to skip these assignments. I think the
jffts were the best assignments we have had.
They have given me a chance to be creative and
actually gave Mrs. Bacon a chance to read
different things that I might not have had the
chance to tell her. I think that it was very
beneficial for me because I am generally not a
good writing, in fact I hate writing. From doing
these assignments, I feel more ready and equipped
for college and many more years to come. I also
chose the j2e files because if I had not done
this whole locker then I would have never known
really what areas in my life I need to work on.
It has given me a chance to see what I need to
improve on and what areas in life and my
relationship with God Im good at. This is
really the main area in my life where I need God
to take control, and He will not unless I allow
Him to. Acceptance of God is a very needed
necessity for Christians. Without God, we are
completely lost and worthless. God has such a big
plan for us, we just have to be willing.
9Commitment to the Church
- Desire to know, live, and share the message and
mission of the church. - There werent very many of my goals that I
thought suited this goal but I did chose J-HOM
4/12 and J-FFT 1/24
10Commitment to Church Artifacts
11Commitment to Church Reflections
- Christians lack desire and passion for God and
the church and others who are not saved. These
assignments have helped me in getting that desire
and passion. At the end of 2004, I joined the
most amazing youth group ever. They have helped
me with every step of my Christian life. When I
needed help or encouragement or just prayer, they
were always there for me. I know I can count on
them whenever I need something. We have done many
events and missions trips as a way to spread the
Word to others. We know there are millions of
people who have not even heard of Jesus!! It
saddens me oh so much. I chose the JHOM
assignment for this goal because it was all about
courage. In order to share Gods word, one can
not be scared. You have to be bold enough to make
yourself available as a servant, or a listener,
or a prayer partner for others. If you are not
strong enough to stand up to your peers, you will
not be able to ever be effective in the world. I
also chose the JFFT assignment. This one was all
about honesty and wisdom. When you share Gods
word, you have to be honest to yourself and God
and others. You must never forget that God is
watching you and He knows what is going on in
your life. Boldness is the main key in searching
for Gods word and sharing it. If you have a
question about God or your faith, ask it! Dont
be afraid of what someone else might say. If the
person you ask laughs at you for asking a dumb
question, I feel that God will not bless them.
Since God is not physically visible, He is
spiritually visible, you can always talk to Him
and no matter what, He will listen to you.
12Interpersonal Relationships
- Develop of sense of self worth, skills in
interpersonal relationships, and understanding of
the responsibilities of family membership and the
ability with sensitivity to the needs of others. - For interpersonal relationships, the two
assignments I have chosen are J-FFT 1/30, and
J-HOM 2/21
13Interpersonal Relationships Artifacts
14Interpersonal Relationships Reflections
Interpersonal relationships are all about having
responsibilities to others. It is also about
being sensitive to the needs and the wants of
others. It is very hard to always be sensitive to
others. Someone cannot always be sensitive, it is
not possible. God does not expect us to always be
sensitive and to always be perfect and
responsible. He knows we are all human beings and
we do mess up. He expects us to try our best to
live and serve Him in everything that we do. I
chose JFFT to go with this goal because it is all
about tactfulness. Tactfulness is being sensitive
the needs of others but to still be honest to
them. Being accurate is always important.
Accuracy is very important. If you want to help
people in their walk with God, you have to be
accurate. You can not fill their mind with
thoughts that are not true. There are too many
false preachers and such, we as Christians need
to be honest shining lights in the midst of their
darkness. It may be hard but God is there to help
us through it all. He will never leave us. He is
sensitive to our needs and wants, although He
does know what is best for us, and for everyone.
He loves us enough to not force us to do
something we do not want to do. We have to be
responsible in our families and with our friends.
They need to keep us accountable to Christ.
Friends are here to help us in our walk with
Christ. If your friends are not there for you,
then they are not your true friends, are they?
Our responsibility as Christians is to read the
word, understand it, and share it with the rest
of the world.
15Responsible Citizenship
- Develop an understanding of cultural and
historical heritages, affirm a belief in the
dignity and worth of others, and accept
responsibility for local, national, and global
environments. - Responsible citizenship was another hard topic to
find assignments for. I ended up choosing J-FFT
4/4, and thesis statement 4/12
16Responsible Citizenship Artifacts
17Responsible Citizenship Reflections
Responsible citizenship was a very hard goal to
find assignments for. It is not too hard when you
think about it but, it is more of an assignment
that can not be done over the internet. To me,
responsible citizenship is doing different things
to leave a legacy in your area. There are many
ways you can do that. My favorite thing that
helped me in this goal was the legacy project. It
taught me how much it can be to help and serve
others. Doing just the littlest thing for someone
can mean the world to them. Some people are very
grateful for the things you have done for them,
others not so much. No matter what the situation
though, God will hold you accountable to Him.
Right now it may not seem like He can see your
every move but He actually can. I chose the JFFT
because this one was all about putting ideas into
practice. Many people say they will do something
but before they get around to doing it, it is far
too late. God puts ideas into our heads, He loves
us so much that He lets us decide what we do with
them afterwards. I also chose my thesis
statement, the one I used for my research paper.
This whole assignment was on servant leadership.
I feel that this is something you can definitely
do in your community, or in your own little part
of the world. God will respect you for what you
do in His name, if it is pleasing to Him. He
knows what you are capable of doing in the world
and He never expects more of you than you can
give Him. Doing the research paper, has helped me
learn about what people have had to say about it
and how I can learn from their mistakes to be
even more effective.
18Healthy Balanced Living
- Accept personal responsibility for achieving and
maintaining optimum physical, mental, and
spiritual health. - I chose two assignments for goal five they are
j-media 4/17, and j-gandhi 3/13
19Healthy Balanced Living Artifacts
20Healthy Balanced Living Reflections
- Healthy balanced living is all about keeping your
mind, body, and spiritual life healthy. Our
bodies are temples of God and He wants us to tree
them as such. He wants what goes in our bodies to
glorify Him. He wants us to keep our bodies
healthy because we need to be physically able to
spread the gospel to as many people as possible.
He also wants everything we do and say to serve
Him and to make Him happy. This year I have
learned so much more about being mentally and
spiritually healthy. I have learned how to be
mentally healthy by doing my work although it
hurts my brain and I do not like it. I chose the
assignment j-media. I think was a very suiting
thing to put in here because it taught me a lot
about the little messages that the media sends
out and that we do not even think about usually.
Doing this assignment has taught me to look more
into what I see on the television and not just
look at the surface but to go deeper. I also
chose the J-Gandhi assignment. Gandhi was an
amazing person of faith. He is such an
encouragement of how one should act when one
believes in something as strongly as he did. He
should make everyone want to try harder to become
a better person and a more outspoken person both
verbally and physically. God made the Ten
Commandments to keep us in line, to keep us
thinking straight and doing actions that are
promotional to Him and His kingdom. He wants us
to keep our spiritual life healthy so that we are
capable of showing his love to others and by
realizing the miracles He puts in our lives so
that we can share them with those who are lost
and leave a legacy in their lives.
21Intellectual Development
- Adopt a systematic, logical, and biblically based
approach to decision-making and problem-solving
when applied to a developing body of knowledge. - I chose JFFT 1/13, and vocab 1/24 for the j2e
goal of Intellectual development
22Intellectual Development Artifacts
23Intellectual Development Reflections
- Intellectual development pretty much means
becoming smart. Becoming smart, is not just
knowledge wise, it is also spiritually, and
emotionally, and many ways. You can never have
too much knowledge. There are so many things
about the world around us that we do not know. We
may never know everything, and that is okay. God
has designed it so that we have the knowledge
that we need and He holds the knowledge to
everything. I chose all the vocabulary
assignments for this goal. They have taught me
words that I will need to know for the real world
and do that I will be able to communicate
effectively whatever it is that I need to, to
others. I also chose the JFFT about tolerance.
Tolerance is a very hard thing to have. People
can only be so tolerant of one another, without
the help of Jesus we will never reach our full
potential. He knows our needs and is there to
help us accomplish them. As you grow in your walk
with God, He will help you become more tolerant
of others and different situations that go on in
the world today. He also does not want us to be
tolerant of the bad things that are happening. He
does not want us to sit back and just watch all
the evil that is going on in the world today. He
wants us to do something about it. The more
informed we are, the more we can do to win others
for Him. I think that many of the JFFT
assignments have been mentally stimulating. I
feel that I have learned a lot about world
history and the life of Jesus and how what
happened in the past can relate to things going
on in the real world even today.
24Communication Skills
- Recognize the importance of effective
communication and develop the requisite skills. - For communication skills J-Martin Luther 1/18,
and Vocab 1/30.
25Communication Skills Artifacts
26Communication Skills Reflections
Communication skills are very important.
Especially today they are important, this is
because since we are such a technical generation
we have so many opportunities to tell others
about God. We can tell them about other things as
well, and inform them and such, but God wants us
to more importantly share the love of God with
them. You can communicate either verbally,
nonverbally, or physically. You can be nonverbal
although that may sound impossible. Sometimes
words just are not needed and you can just be
there for someone and it could mean the world of
a difference to them. I chose the vocabulary
assignments for the j2e goal of communicational
skills. Without effective communication skills
then there is no way we can reach others. Do not
get me wrong however, God wants to use us in
every single way. He wants us to trust Him in
letting Him use us for His kingdom. He never
expects more of us then we can give Him. I also
chose J Martin because he was a great example of
an effective speaker. Words mean everything. One
must choose their words wisely or else it could
be dangerous. You can always take words back but
the effect still remains. You also never know who
you will impact or who your words are affecting.
It is best to choose your words very carefully
and to try your best not to slip up. God will
always forgive you if you ask Him to but people
are a different story. You can try to win back
their trust but it may never happen. I have never
been really good with big words. They are
definitely not a walk in the park for me. I feel
though this year I have learned many new words
and from the quizzes, I think I will remember
them.
27Personal Management
- Function responsibly in the everyday world, using
Christian principles of stewardship, economy, and
personal management. - Personal Management fits with many assignments, I
just so happened to chose J-HOM 2/14, and J-Media
1/22
28Personal Management Artifacts
29Personal Management Reflections
- I feel that this year I have learned a lot about
personal management. This whole year has really
been a huge example of personal management. Since
ae21 is an online class we are given a list of
things to do, we have to manage ourselves so that
we can get them done. We have to watch our time
and make sure not to waste too much time on the
computer. We also cannot let ourselves get too
distracted with things that are so easily
accessible. For this goal I chose the JHOM about
excellence. Striving for excellence is a personal
thing, no one can make you want to do your best
or try your best you must want it for yourself.
God wants us to strive for excellence. Within
knowing what God wants, we should do it! He
rewards those who do what He wants them to do and
who do with the right attitude. He does not want
a halfhearted job He wants you to give it
everything you have. I also chose one of the
grammar assignments. It has helped me to learn a
lot more about English than I have ever known. It
helps me know that no one can make me learn, and
no one can force me to work. I have to want to do
it myself, I have to want to improve for my own
sake and not just because a teacher would like me
to. I want to manage the things I do and I feel
that this year has helped a lot in that area. God
has shown me the right attitude I need to have
when I do the things I am called to do. He never
will force us to do anything but out of our own
free will, He would like us to.
30Aesthetic Appreciation
- Develop an appreciation of the beautiful, both in
Gods creation and in human expression, while
nurturing individual ability in the fine arts. - For Aesthetic Appreciation I chose j-free 4/25.
This is the only assignment I could find for this
goal.
31Aesthetic Development Artifacts
32Aesthetic Appreciation Reflections
For Aesthetic appreciation I chose my final free
journal. It was all about this even that my
church attended called fine arts. In fine arts
there were many different categories so that
people could use their maximum potential to do
what they love to do. God knows that we all have
different abilities that can all be used for Him,
and to win others to Him. We used our God given
gifts to win others for Him. This was a Christian
event however Im sure some people there needed
to here the Word. Or they might have needed to
just hear the message that we were sharing.
Aesthetic appreciation to me, means pretty much
using the skills and the gifts that God has given
you to help others or to reach out to the lost.
God wants us to not be afraid to share His Word
and His love, seeing as He bore His life for us
in front of many many people. God wants us to be
creative, He is creative. He knows we have needs
and wants to be our own person. He loves
individuality and never demotes someone because
of their personality. Christ always showed His
loving personality and His wants to help others.
He was persecuted and verbally abused for healing
people on the Sabbath. He was never really
concerned with what others thought. He stayed
true to Himself, the Father, and His disciples.
He was the perfect example of appreciation of
beauty. He showed His Fathers beauty. He never
took credit for Himself, and He always pointed
out the reason He was here on earthto accomplish
the Fathers will. God does not want us to change
who we are, for anyone. He does not want to
change us, He only wants to form us and use us.
He has great plans of how we can use our
abilities for Him, we just have to show Him that
we are willing by using those skills.
33Career and Service
- Develop a Christian work ethic with an
appreciation for the dignity of service. - I chose two assignments for career and service
j-fft hom 4/17 and j-adra 5/3
34Career and Service Artifacts
35Career and Service Reflections
- Career and service means working in an
environment where you have the opportunity to
share the word with other workers. God will use
you in a way you never thought possible, if you
just let Him. I feel that the research paper has
really helped me in my servant leadership. I have
learned so much about being a serving leader. I
chose JFFT for this assignment because servant
leaders can not show gratitude in moderation.
Pretty much everyone shows gratitude in one way
or another. Most people just do not go the extra
mile like God has called us to do. Gratuity can
be shown in many different ways yet, most people
hardly show it enough. The other assignment that
I have chosen to fit in career and service was
the j-adra. I felt like I have learned so much
from them. They have taught us so much about
being a leader and serving as a leader. They also
gave us many ideas on what we can do in our own
area. Christ is the perfect example of what
career and service should look like. He helped so
many people and always put their needs before His
own. Doing all these bible assignments has helped
me to learn more about Jesus life and the things
He did to help others. These stories have also
taught me how to serve others. Service is a big
thing in Florida. There are so many different
things that we can help with. We have so many
opportunities but many people are too lazy to use
the opportunities we are given. We can help out
with hurricane victims or with the elderly, since
there are so many of them here. I know that I
need to chose my career wisely. I know that God
will help me to choose what He wants me to do. He
will work in my life just like He worked in the
lives of others.
36The End!!!
- That was the end of Melissas second semester
portfolio!! Hope you enjoyed!
