These slides are basic definitions to go by in
your activities. -

3Visiting Definitions
Visit An interactive experience between an
Accredited Visitor and a patient or family
member(s) concerning heart disease and Mended
Hearts. These conversations may be conducted
either in person or via telephone.
4Visiting Definitions
Location of Visit Visits may take place in
locations other than hospitals. Regardless of
where the visit is made (in the hospital or
outside of the hospital) as long as an Accredited
Visitor is talking about heart disease and Mended
Hearts, it is considered a visit.

Telephone Visit An interactive experience
between an Accredited Visitor and a patient or
family concerning heart disease and Mended Hearts
conducted via the telephone. For reporting
purposes, telephone visits should be counted as
either a visit to a patient or a visit to a
family.
6Visiting Definitions
Internet Visits An Internet visit is an
interactive, online communication between
Accredited Internet Visitors and individuals who
have written into our National Internet program
concerning heart disease and Mended Hearts.
Internet visits are made by individuals who have
registered with the National Internet Visiting
Chair. Only the original visit and up to two
follow up visits should be counted.

Number of Visits to Patients If the patients or
families request multiple visits, or if the
hospital requires multiple visits, this is
acceptable. Only the original visit and up to
two follow up visits should be counted.
8Visiting Definitions
Examples of interactions that are NOT
visits In-person Dropping by and only
discussing children and grandchildren, exchanging
recipes, discussing sports, etc. is not a
visit. Telephone Reminder calls for chapter
meetings, discussing current events or topics not
related to heart, without discussing support to
the patient and/or family is not a visit. more
persons.

Examples of interactions that are NOT
visits Internet Only sharing jokes or
personal information not related to heart event
recovery is not a visit. Sending a note,
invitation to a meeting or newsletter is NOT
considered a visit. A visit must be an
interaction between two or more persons.
