The Challenge

• Most conferences have a paper map for
• attendees to pin-point their home cities.
• But not us! We aim a little higher!
• Create us an interesting dataset relating to the
  conference attendees.
• For example
• A map showing the number of visitors from each
  country
• A table showing the longest journey distance
• The answer to whether any of our visitors come
  from twinned cities?
• Do whatever you can think of use your
  imagination!
• And FME of course.

The Datasets

• The Software you have includes FME,
• Google Earth and a web browser.
• The main datasets you have are
• Shape dataset World map
• CSV file Conference attendees home cities
• Text file World cities with geographic
  coordinates
• Plus some interesting data files, some FME
  short-cuts and any information that you can
  locate on the internet
• You have approximately 40 minutes starting from.

• By now the contestants will have browsed through
  their source information and found some optional
  datasets.
• What will they make of
• CSV file 2004 Olympic medal table
• CSV file List of the worlds most liveable
  cities
• Text file List of world airports
• CSV file List of cities their twin (sister)
  city
• CSV file German English Dictionary
• (did we mention the main city list is in German?)

• PLUS An FME custom format
• This format will convert the world cities list
  into spatial features (bonus marks to any team
  that reads the data without using this)
