  • Take a class survey of the different
    ethnicities of each student in the classroom.
    Graph the ethnic background of the class.
  • Research the different cultural communities
    that reside in the state of Ohio.
  • Write the Ohio government and ask how the
    government deals with the specific needs and
    demands of various cultures.
  • Class will have a cultural feast. Students will
    bring in an authentic dish from a chosen
    cultural.
  • Choose an Ohio hero from the book Heros of
    Ohio and create a diorama depicting the heros
    accomplishments.

ACTIVITIES
  • Create a topographic map of the city.
  • Write a friendly e-mail to your E-pal from a
    different country.
  • Locate on a map of Ohio, all of the cities
    listed in the picture book titled B is for
    Buckeye An Ohio Alphabet.
  • Pick a country from the teachers hat and
    identify the continent and the longitude and
    latitude of that country. Compare Ohios
    climate, vegetation and resources to the selected
    countrys climate, vegetation and resources.
  • Create a survey about things you would like
    to know about people in a different state. Send
    the survey to any elementary school in one of
    Ohios border states.

  • Take a field trip to the Dayton Court house and
    Jail.
  • Participate in a campaign and vote for a
    classroom President, Vice President and
    Secretary.
  • Have a guest speaker from the Police Department
    and the Fire department who will discuss how they
    protect the health and safety of citizens.
  • Make a cartoon that depicts the
    responsibilities of the three branches of the
    government.
  • Start an individual business and investigate
    the start up cost and taxes associated with being
    self-employed.

    Investigate how many people are involved in the
    process.
  • Create a bulletin board showing the difference
    between Production and Consumption.
  • Decide as a class on which crop to grow to feed
    the community. Investigate how much land
    is needed and how much time is invested in the
    growing process.
  • Compare and contrast products and utensils used
    for Todays cooking and products and utensils
    used by the first Pioneers.
  • Chart the name and amount of goods and services
    used by your household.
