Aims and Motivation

• Aim of work done so far
• To simulate the clear sky radiation budget in the
  atmosphere using the Edwards and Slingo radiative
  transfer model.
• To validate this model using surface and TOA
  broadband radiation measurements.
• To understand clear sky radiative processes.

Method

• Use cloud properties measured by RADAR and LIDAR
  in Niamey, with other atmospheric measurements to
  model the radiation budget of the atmosphere
  using the Edwards and Slingo radiative transfer
  model.
• Results are compared to radiation data collected
  at the surface (ARM site) and top of the
  atmosphere (GERB)
