• 1776- published Common Sense which urged support
  of American independence
• Joined the Continental Army

After the War

• He lived in N.Y. and N.J. until 1787
• Went to Europe
• Got caught up in the French revolution
• Opposed the execution of the king
• Was imprisoned

In the End.

• Wrote Age of Reason which was an attack on
  organized religion
• Americans shunned him because of this and thought
  he was an atheist
• Couldnt be buried in sacred ground
• Dug up the body and it got misplaced
