Physical Features

• Mount Katahdin is 5,268 feet long.
• The Eastern woodlands have 1,200 islands.
• The Penobscot River is 350 miles long.

Animals

• Beside the Penobscot River there are big animals
  moose, dear, caribou, and bears.
• The smaller animals are muskrat, beaver, and
  rabbit.

Birds

• The birds are eagles, osprey, herons, loons,
  hummingbirds and puffins.

Sea Life

• The sea life is shellfish, clams, mussels,
  whelks, periwinkles, squid, crabs, lobster, eels,
  smelt, flounder, shad and skate.

The Plants

• The plants are apple, pine, oak, maple, elm,
  birch, blueberry, raspberry, bush sumac, roses,
  lilac, hemlock, balsam fir, basswood, spruce, and
  chokeberries.

More Plants

• Some more plants are shad bush, thorn apples,
  anemone, aster, bittersweet, black eyed Susan,
  butter cup, golden lady slippers, rod, marbill,
  hepatic and Indian pipe.

• They gathered eggs and berries.
• They grew beans, squash, and corn.
• They hunted for moose, caribou, bears, otter,
  muskrat, beaver, and rabbit.
• They used spears to get grey seals, walruses,
  porpoises, and whales.
• They got mussels, clams, crabs, lobsters and
  oysters.
• They made a lot of soup.

Shelter

• A wigwam is made of birch bark.
• There is a pole and fireplace.
• The wigwams are different shapes and sizes.
• Doors are made of leather and they use string to
  hold it up.

• They wear loincloths, boots, robes, moccasins,
  headbands, skirts, belts, leggings and cuffs.

Family Life

• Everyday people made a share about their
  feelings.
• Each person likes their own special place because
  they could have their privacy.

European Influence

• Europeans used to be nice until Penobscot changed
  headdress.
• A rumor came by and someone forced someone off
  their land which made the Penobscots mad.
• They started attacking the Europeans.
• Europeans and Penobscots made a treaty and then
  the Penobscot got their land back.

Penobscot Today

• My tribe does exist.
• They signed the treaty.
• The Penobscot got eighty million dollars.
• They will not give their land back so they got
  fifteen thousand acres or more.
• They got new homes, churches, businesses, and
  clinics.

Other

• Louis Sockalexis was the first Native American
  major league baseball player. He was a Penobscot
  Indian.
• The first Maine school was the Indian Mission
  school, which was built in 1896.

More Other

• There were games. One game is cornhusk dolls.
  Another game is walte dice game. A weird stick
  thing to see how far it can go in the snow is
  called snowsnake.
• They make canoes, stone clubs, knives, moccasins,
  cow horn rattler, and baskets.
