AMPHIBIANS ARE DECLINING! In 2000, the U.S.
Congress authorized the U.S. Geological Survey to
undertake a national assessment of the status of
amphibians within the United States, and to
develop a research program designed to detect
trends and identify factors which might be
causing declines. This program, the Amphibian
Research and Monitoring Initiative (ARMI) focuses
on Department of Interior lands, which in the
Southeast are largely under the jurisdiction of
the National Park Service and U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service. The Florida Integrated Science
Center has the responsibility for carrying out
ARMI-related research in the Southeast. Enjoy
your visit to Harris Neck.
