96 ground based telescopes and geophysical
instruments as well as more than 50 scientific
institutes and observatories are involved in IHY.
Location 10 time zones from Far East
(Ussuriysk, Kamchatka) to North Caucasus,
St-Petersburg, and Kaliningrad.Both ground based
observation programs, 8 solar-terrestrial space
missions and 5 experiments on International Space
Station will be realized in 2007. For details see
the site http//idg.chph.ras.ru/rus/sunearco/inde

Similar physical processes are evident in vastly
different environments
Science Goals
  • 2007 is the minimum of solar activity, so there
is little chance to observe very active events.
Nevertheless minimum 2007 will give us some
    preferences
  • More pronounced structure of large-scale magnetic
    field
  • Best time for observations of solar polar
regions, coronal holes, bright X-ray points
  • If flares occur, there will be quite good
conditions for flare observations because of few
    interference (masked) factors.
  • The main subjects are as follows
  • Large-scale magnetic field, Coronal holes
  • Oscillations, Solar seismology
  • Solar wind
  • Cosmic rays
  • Earth climate
  • Heliobiology
  • Sun and Earthquakes

Magnetic and ionospheric observations
International IHY Symposium will be held in
ZVENIGOROD an old Russian town in Moscow
Region November 5 - 10, 2007 The symposium will
focus on the following topics 1. Solar sources
of geoeffective disturbances. 2. Interplanetary
medium as an energy link between the Sun and
the Earth. 3. Magnetosphere, ionosphere and
atmosphere response to solar activity
events. 4. Climate, ecology and human
life. http//helios.izmiran.troitsk.ru/Solter/ihy2
