4 Monsoons Summer and Winter
- Monsoons blow from land to sea in the winter and
from sea to land in the summer. Â
- They carry moisture from the Indian Ocean and
bring heavy rains from June to SeptemberÂ
5- Despite the destruction they can cause farmers
depend on these rains to irrigate the land.Â
- Winter monsoons are very windy and dry because
they have lost their moisture on the Asian land
mass.Â

8- Houses were one or two stories high, made of
baked brick, with flat roofs, and were just about
identical!
This was a very advanced civilization because

12What did people in Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro like
to wear?
13Women wore jewelry of gold and precious stone,
and even wore lipstick!
Men and women dressed in colorful robes.
14What did people do for fun in Harappa and
Mohenjo-Daro?
15Some of the toys found were small carts, whistles
shaped like birds, and toy monkeys which could
slide down a string!
Archeologists have also discovered little toy
boats!
16In the ancient city of Mohenjo-daro, scientists
have found the remains of a large central pool,
with steps leading down at both ends. This could
have been a public swimming pool, or perhaps have
been used for religious ceremonies.
17A beautiful small statue of a dancer was found,
which tells us that they enjoyed dance and had
great skill working with metals
18The Ancient Indians also played chess! But for
them, it was for 4 players!

20- Dinner might have been warm tasty wheat bread
served with barley or rice.
- They grew barley, peas, melons, wheat, and dates.
- They kept herds of sheep, pigs, cows, and water
buffalo.
- Fish were caught in the river with fish hooks!
21The Arts...
22- They were marvelous craftsmen, skilled in
pottery, weaving, and metal working
- The pottery that has been found is of very high
quality, with unusually beautiful designs
23Transportation
24The people used camels, oxen and elephants to
travel over land.
25- They had carts with wooden wheels.
- They had ships used to sail around the Arabian
Sea.
26Arrows extend from Harappa to likely source areas
for raw materials such as marine shell and
copper. These raw materials were transformed into
ornaments and tools at Harappa for local trade.
