Facts about Kangaroo Island

• Kangaroo Island is the 3rd largest island in
  Australia
• Kangaroo Island has many species of animals and
  plants that are no longer found on the mainland.
• Kangaroo Island has some of the best
  scuba-diving, fishing, surfing, and sailing.

Geography

• Kangaroo Island is mostly untouched national
  parklands
• Kangaroo Island has an area of over 4000km2 with
  500km of coastline.
• Over 20 national parks envelop a large portion of
  the island.
• There are fascinating beaches, caves, sinkholes,
  and caverns.
• Half the island has never been cleared of
  vegetation and about one-third of that is
  conserved in National and Conservation Parks.

Wildlife

• There is a abundant wildlife, much of which is
  uncommon or extinct on mainland Australia.
• The Tammar Wallaby, Short Beaked Echidna,
  Brushtail Possum, Southern Brown Bandicoot,
  Western and Little Pygmy Possum, Endemic Sooty
  Dunnart, Bush and Swamp rat, six bat species, six
  frog species, Rosenbergs Sand Goanna, Black
  Tiger Snake, Pygmy Copperhead, Australian Sea
  Lion, New Zealand Fur Seal, Australian Fur Seals
  and Kangaroo Island Kangaroo are all native to
  Kangaroo Island.
• There are over 251 birds that can be seen on
  Kangaroo Island. Some of these include the
  Superb Fairy-wren, Rainbow and Purple-crowned
  Lorikeets, and little penguins.
• The wildlife survives so well because it is in
  isolation from some of the evolving species on
  the mainland. Kangaroo Island was part of the
  mainland until 9500 years ago.

Climate

• Kangaroo Island has mild temperate mild climate.
• During the summer the average temperature is 25
  degrees Celsius.
• The winter seems to be a few degrees warmer than
  the summer.
• There are cool southern breezes that go through
  in the evenings making it a little chillier than
  the day.
• The ocean plays a large role in the weather
  patterns.

Kingscote

• Kingscote is that capital of Kangaroo Island.
• The largest town on Kangaroo Island that is
  located on Nepean Bay.
• The population is around 14500 people.
• You can watch pelicans feeding and also see fairy
  penguins come ashore at night.
• This town is best known for tourism.

Food

• There are free range poultry products. Since it
  is a fox-free island the birds can run free
  ensuring big meaty birds.
• Fresh seafood is very popular. King George
  Whiting and Marron and the most requested dishes.
• Jellies, jams, and sauces are made with wild
  ingredients and are well known on the island.
• Island Pure is known for its sheeps milk
  yoghurt.
• Some of the best cheeses are produced by the
  dairies on the island. These include the award
  winning Kangaroo Island Brie and Camembert.
• Sting, which is a honey liqueur, is very popluar
  to finish a meal.

• Scuba-Diving is one of the popular activities to
  do in Kangaroo Island.
• Scuba-Diving on Kangaroo Island attracts most
  tourists.
• The other two popular activities are surfing and
  fishing.
• There are five main types of fishing on the
  Island including Jetty fishing, surf fishing,
  rock fishing, river fishing, and boat fishing.
• The surf on Kangaroo Island is some of the best
  for beginners or those more experienced
