- Mainly devoted to the study of all the areas and
matters related with aquaculture, the ecology of
the estuaries and the exploitation conditions of
shellfish and other marine resources, supporting
the activities of the artisanal fishermen and
shellfish gatherers by providing them good
quality seeds and technical assistance. -

- To accomplish a strict and intensive control
system on the relevant parameters of the marine
environment to ensure the observance and respect
to the norms and the juridical regime applicable
to the production of molluscs and other marine
organisms - to develop exploitation and commercialization
strategies based on offering best quality and
safety products - to protect and even improve the quality of the
Galician waters in general and of the shellfish
production areas in particular.

- III. GALICIAN INSTITUTE FOR TRAINING IN
AQUACULTURE (IGAFA) - The IGAFA was created in 1992 and offers
education and training courses on aquaculture,
resulting in the formation of technicians and
workers with a high level of professional
qualification and advanced skills. - The IGAFA offers 5 different qualification
programs - Specialist in Aquaculture Operations (1.700
hours) - Specialist in Aquaculture Production (2.000
hours) - Specialist in Medium Depth Diving (1.400 hours)
- Fish farmer operator / Local Fishing Skipper
certificate (900 h) - Master Course in Innovation, Production
Technology and Management in Aquaculture (800
theoretical-practical hours and three months of
practice in companies of the aquaculture sector)
13- FACILITIES OF THE IGAFA - GALICIAN INSTITUTE FOR
AQUACULTURE TRAINING - - Aquaculture
- Indoor 1.175 m2 plant with all the necessary
sections for training on breeding, hatching,
incubation, larvii and fry rearing of different
marine species. - Outdoor pilot scale sea cages for fish culture
and small scale hatcheries, rafts and inter-tidal
sand plot for mollusc farming. - Diving it has indoor and outdoor pools and a
complete equipment including hyperbaric chamber,
diving bell, gas filling station and practice
area in the sea. - Other common facilities three school boats,
welding and mechanical workshops, shipping
simulation room, laboratories, class rooms,
computer and audiovisual rooms, conference-room,
offices, cafeteria, etc.

- VI. THE SECURITY AND SURVIVAL AT THE SEA TRAINING
CENTRE is part of the Nautical-Fishing
School of Ferrol. - Their objective is to qualify the different
professionals and workers of the sea in the
maintenance of basic security and safety on
board. - The Safety and Life-rescue Classroom consists of
three sections equipped with the whole necessary
material to learn, to control, and to prevent
possible malfunctions, fire accidents,
life-rescue and first aid. - The facilities host, out from 1992, an average of
56 courses per year.
