Policy Framework
  • Ministry objectives that align with the Northern
    Studies and Community Schools Project
  • Building Capacity to support identity building,
    including the appreciation of Aboriginal
    perspectives, values and cultures by all
    students, school board staff and trustees.

    Nations Communities
  • Provide opportunities for staff and students to
    visit First Nation Communities
  • Engage Parents and our First Nation Communities
  • Promote the Ojibway language throughout our
    school system.
  • Integrate Ojibway Culture at all grade levels and
    through out the curriculum
  • Catholicity, character Education and aboriginal
    beliefs are blended to form a well rounded
    education for our students with respect for all
    cultures and people

    throughout the program

    boards and schools writing school improvement

  • Development of partnership with First nation
    community on specific activities to ensure
    inclusion of First Nation community members,

  • School Staff and parent volunteers have attended
    Wazhusk Onigum First Nation on several occasions.
    Northern Studies field trips have had average of
    4 8 parent volunteers.
  • JK/SK are being introduced to Ojibway language
    through the Northern Studies program, through
    singing, games, naming animals etc.
  • Integration of Ojibway Culture within weekly
    lesson plans ie. seven teachings, respecting
    mother earth etc.
  • Character Education through discussion of seven
    teachings, monthly cardinal virtues, and other
    cultures.
  • JK/SK Student portfolios of work completed within
    Northern Studies sent home with term reports.
    Northern Studies picture and writing journals for
    Grades 1-3.
