2
The seepex, Inc. NaOCl Pump Group D /
Range MD
  • PC metering pump in standard design
  • Features/benefits
  • Flow range 0.06 100 gph
  • hardened, wear resistant pin joints
    positively sealed
  • by one EPDM elastomer sleeve
  • No pulsation no dampeners required
  • Can handle gas pockets however, suction
    piping design is important
  • Low cost standard pump/drive packages
    available

3
The seepex, Inc. NaOCL Pump Group D /
Range MD
  • Materials for NaOCl Service
    B4-T4-T4-GO-GA
  • Ryton seal casing
  • John Crane Type 1 Seal - SC/SC Faces, EPDM
    Elastomers, Titanium Metal
  • Other seals available....

4
NaOCl Sodium Hypochlorite
  • AKA bleach, hypo, chlorine
  • Used as a disinfectant
  • Corrosive
  • pH 11-13
  • Concentration
  • Typically 12.5 in wastewater/water treatment
  • Some 0.8 for on-site generated systems
  • Household bleach is 5
  • Manufactured by the reaction of chlorine, sodium
    hydroxide and water
  • Always decomposing

5
NaOCl Sodium HypochloriteDisinfection Types
  • Ultraviolet
  • Ozone
  • Chlorination (most common)
  • Gas Chlorination in decline
  • Liquid Chlorination - NaOCl

6
NaOCl Sodium HypochloriteDecomposition
Results in Oxygen Formation
  • NaOCl is ALWAYS decomposing
  • Reasons for decomposition
  • Higher concentrations decompose faster
  • Metals (copper, nickel, cobalt) increase rate
    decomposition
  • UV Light
  • If pH drops below 12, the rate of decomposition
    increases
  • Decomposition rate increases as temperature
    increases
  • This is a CHEMICAL reaction vapor pressure of
NaOCl is 1.9 psia _at_ 118F

7
NaOCl Sodium HypochloriteDecomposition - If
PC pumps pump air pockets, why do we care?
  • Salt will crystallize on, piping, valves, seal
    faces, rotors, etc.
  • If a large enough bubble forms in the suction,
pump will run dry for too long
  • Unsafe pressures can develop
  • Solutions
  • Suction piping design keep lines short, use
    slopes, vent any high points
  • Insure there is no flow protection somewhere in
    the system
  • Place PRVs in the proper places
  • NaOCl that sits in a pipe all weekend in Alabama
in the summer will have MUCH gas!

8
NaOCl MD Sealing
  • Standard Seal is single, inside - Sil Car Vs Sil
    Car, EPDM, Titanium Metal
  • Eventually, salt will form on the outside of the
    faces

9
NaOCl MD Sealing
  • Offer a quench if crystalllization unacceptable
  • Seal casing must be Titanium

10
Hypo Pump Competition Piston/Diaphragm Pumps

11
Hypo Pump Competition Piston/Diaphragm Pumps
  • NaOCl gassing in the chamber GASLOCK
  • External gas bypass systems required
  • Pulsations require dampeners
  • Slip and backflow in valves
  • Valves routinely require maintenance salt
    crystallization
  • seepex has a unique position in the market for
    NaOCl pumps!

12
Hypo Pump Competition Piston/Diaphragm Pumps
  • seepex design is essentially an infinite length
    piston pump
  • seepex
  • NaOCl gassing in the chamber GASLOCK NO!
  • External gas bypass systems required NO!
  • Pulsations require dampeners NO!
  • Slip and backflow in valves NO!
  • Valves routinely require maintenance salt
    crystallization NO!
