History
  • The Partners for Pollution Prevention (P4P2) is
    an association of industry, government, academic,
    and environmental organizations whose mission is
    to advance pollution prevention in Indiana.
  • Organized in 1996 by IDEM, the purpose of this
    association is to assist industry in sharing
    pollution prevention successes and to advise IDEM
    on pollution prevention policy and programs.

Mission
  • The Partners for Pollution Prevention instills
    the passion for pollution prevention in
    businesses and organizations by promoting
    successful approaches to achieve measurable
    reductions in pollution in Indiana.

Vision
Indiana becomes a place where people embrace
pollution prevention as a means to live and
prosper in a clean environment, while enjoying
and preserving our natural resources forever.

Membership
  • Membership consists of approximately 35
    businesses, organizations and individuals that
    agree to meet the Partners pollution prevention
    pledge.

Partners For P2 Pledge
  • Ensure employees are aware of our commitment to
    pollution prevention and understand their role in
    implementing pollution prevention objectives and
    goals
  • Incorporate pollution prevention planning in the
    development of new products, processes, and/or
    services
  • Establish a mechanism to monitor waste generation
    and identify realistic pollution prevention
    goals
  • Establish a process to listen and respond to
    stakeholders concerns

  • Make available your general waste reduction and
    pollution prevention information to members of
    our community, IDEM, and the Partners, if
    requested
  • Establish an outreach program for promoting and
    supporting pollution prevention efforts
  • Participate in two or more Partners meetings
    annually
  • Support the annual Pollution Prevention
    Conference and Trade Show and
  • Submit an annual pollution prevention activity
    certification.

    by IDEM and others for P2 efforts.
  • Your P2 projects may be promoted through IDEM
    publications.
  • Networking opportunities with IDEM
    representatives and leading P2 advocates in
    Indiana.
  • Certificate of Participation from the Partners
    and the Commissioner of IDEM.

  • Use of the Partners for P2 logo on environmental
    reports and other company literature.
  • Participate in coordinated efforts to provide
    input related to pollution prevention integration
    during IDEM policy and regulatory initiatives.
  • Increased awareness of activities available from
    Indiana Clean Manufacturing Technology and Safe
    Materials Institute (CMTI) and a voice in their
    progress and activities.

How to Become a Partner
  • Sign the Partners Pledge
  • This certifies that the company is working to
    meet the requirements of the Pledge and will
    continue to operate with these goals in mind.
  • Complete the annual activity certification to
    re-certify that your company has continued to
    meet the pledge.
  • Membership is free, completely voluntary, and
    conditional on support of the P2 Partners Pledge.

Types of Pollution Prevention Projects that
Partners have Shared
  • Equipment or technology modifications, process or
    procedure modifications.
  • Reformulation or redesign of products,
    substitution of raw materials.
  • Improvements in housekeeping, maintenance,
    training, or inventory control.

Altec Engineering
  • Converted several acetone applications to a
    material developed in coordination with U.S. EPA.
  • Much more effective pound for pound and new
    material is not a hazardous waste.
  • 70 80 reduction in acetone waste.
  • 12,000 pound reduction annually of hazardous
    waste.

  • Converted boilers from No. 6 oil to landfill gas.
  • Reduced SO2, PM-10, NOX
  • 400 tons annual reductions

General Seating of America
  • Eliminated a gluing process from one of its seat
    manufacturing lines.
  • Changed to a snap/buckle system.
  • Reduced hazardous air pollutant, volatile organic
    compound and particulate matter emissions by over
    90.
  • 95.5 reduction in PM/PM-10, VOC and HAP
    emissions.
  • 176,296 pound reduction in solid waste generated
    in 8 month period.
  • Solid waste disposal costs dropped from 0.43/car
    set to 0.26/car set.
  • Costs to implement ISO projects (12,000) were
    recovered within one year.
