Wakulima Dairy Project Background
1990 Started as a small Self Help group
collecting milk from its members in the
mornings and selling it uncooled to Brookside
Dairy near Nairobi. 1997 FHF began assisting
the group purchased bulk cooling system
Daily income doubled as a result Now - A public
company, involving over 5000 small scale
dairy farmers, that offers services such
as milk testing lab credit
union veterinary services - A leader among
Kenyan Dairy Producers - Daily production value

Education Unit Basic Resources
Store Administration Facility The Project is
also installing Bio-Gas Units on over 500 of
their farms in order to cut down on greenhouse
gases.

The Domino Effect
When one farmer has a cow, he employs at least
one other person to help him look after the
cow. The Wakulima Dairy Project has led
to more cows per farm a higher birth-rate
for calves increased milk production a
reduction in mastitisand more importantly a
regional economic spin-off better dairy health
and production
Partly due to FHFs help, the dairy farmers are
now able to feed their cows, produce the milk,
store the milk, ect. at the optimum levels which
in turn increases their productivity and profits.
