Hebrews 21-4 (ESV)
  • Therefore we must pay much closer attention to
what we have heard, lest we drift away from it.
  • For since the message declared by angels proved
to be reliable and every transgression or
disobedience received a just retribution, how
shall we escape if we neglect such a great
    salvation?
  • It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was
attested to us by those who heard, while God also
bore witness by signs and wonders and various
miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit
    distributed according to his will.

Angels
  • Acts 753 (Stephens message)
  • . . . you who received the law as delivered by
angels and did not keep it.
  • Galatians 319
  • . . . the Law . . . was put in place through
    angels by an intermediary.

Multiple Witnesses
  • A single witness shall not suffice against a
person for any crime or for any wrong in
connection with any offense that he has
committed. Only on the evidence of two witnesses
or of three witnesses shall a charge be
    established. (Deuteronomy 1915, cf. 176)
  • John 531-40
  • Jesus
  • John the Baptist

  • the Scriptures

ATTENTION

Multiple Witnesses
  • In your Law it is written that the testimony of
two men is true. I am the one who bears witness
about myself, and the Father who sent me bears
    witness about me. (John 817-18)
  • Anyone who has set aside the law of Moses dies
without mercy on the evidence of two or three
witnesses. How much worse punishment, do you
think, will be deserved by the one who has
spurned the Son of God, and has profaned the
blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified,
and has outraged the Spirit of grace? (Hebrews
    1028-29)

Hebrews 21-4 (NLT)
  • So we must listen very carefully to the truth we
have heard, or we may drift away from it.
  • The message God delivered through angels has
always proved true, and the people were punished
for every violation of the law and every act of
    disobedience.
  • What makes us think that we can escape if we are
indifferent to this great salvation that was
announced by the Lord Jesus himself?
  • It was passed on to us by those who heard him
speak, and God verified the message by signs and
wonders and various miracles and by giving gifts
of the Holy Spirit whenever he chose to do so.

Hebrews 25-9
  • Now it was not to angels that God subjected the
world to come, of which we are speaking.
  • It has been testified somewhere,
  • What is man, that you are mindful of him,
  • or the son of man, that you care for him?
  • You made him for a little while lower than the
    angels
  • you have crowned him with glory and honor,
  • putting everything in subjection under his
    feet.
  • Now in putting everything in subjection to him,
he left nothing outside his control. At present,
we do not yet see everything in subjection to
him. But we see him who for a little while was
made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned
with glory and honor because of the suffering of
death, so that by the grace of God he might taste
    death for everyone.

Psalm 83-8
  • When I look at your heavens, the work of your
    fingers,
  • the moon and the stars, which you have set in
    place,
  • what is man that you are mindful of him,
  • and the son of man that you care for him?
  • Yet you have made him a little lower than the
    heavenly beings
  • and crowned him with glory and honor.
  • You have given him dominion over the works of
    your hands
  • you have put all things under his feet,
  • all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the
    field,
  • the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the
    sea,
  • whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

Genesis 126-28
  • Then God said, "Let us make man in our image,
after our likeness. And let them have dominion
over the fish of the sea and over the birds of
the heavens and over the livestock and over all
the earth and over every creeping thing that
    creeps on the earth."
  • . . .
  • And God blessed them. And God said to them, "Be
fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and
subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the
sea and over the birds of the heavens and over
every living thing that moves on the earth."

Hebrews 210-13
  • For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom
all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory,
should make the founder of their salvation
    perfect through suffering.
  • For he who sanctifies and those who are
sanctified all have one origin. That is why he is
not ashamed to call them brothers, saying,
  • "I will tell of your name to my brothers in the
midst of the congregation I will sing your
    praise." (Psalm 2222)
  • And again, "I will put my trust in him."
  • And again, "Behold, I and the children God has
    given me." (Isaiah 817-18)

Hebrews 214-18
  • Since therefore the children share in flesh and
blood, he himself likewise partook of the same
things, that through death he might destroy the
one who has the power of death, that is, the
devil, and deliver all those who through fear of
death were subject to lifelong slavery.
  • For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he
    helps the offspring of Abraham.
  • Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in
every respect, so that he might become a merciful
and faithful high priest in the service of God,
to make propitiation for the sins of the people.
  • For because he himself has suffered when tempted,
he is able to help those who are being tempted.

Conclusion
  • . . . the Son of God himself has come, before
    whom all the angels,
  • fallen or unfallen, are commanded to worship
  • for whom angels are but messengers committed to
    do his wishes
  • who has himself revealed a far greater message
    than the Law
  • and who has recaptured for all who come to him
    the lost heritage of creation
  • who has lifted, through the ultimate personal
    sacrifice,
  • the terrible burden of sin and guilt which lies
    on us all
  • and who offers to us each day an inner supply
  • of strength and wisdom for the journey through
    life?
  • What angel can do all or any of that?"
