14Leadership Team Coaching
15I already have a million other people coming onto
my campus to help. We have too many chiefs and
not enough Indians. I dont need another person
telling me what to do.
By working with my coach, I have become clearer
about the goals and outcomes that I have for me
and my school. I have had the opportunity to
work through difficult conversations and be more
prepared for meetings that deal with improving
student learning. Having a coach who understands
my goals and asks the difficult questions that I
may be faced with responding to has been really
helpful.
Because of my coach I have learnedto be more
reflective in my practice. I now take the time
to plan and be thoughtful about the process I use
in team meetings.
16I dont have time for this touchy feely stuff.
My school has bigger and more important things to
deal with.
I have a stated purpose to be alive in all areas
of my life and coaching has helped me to follow
through on making important connections with
family, friends, and colleagues. I have received
a promotion in my career and am one step closer
to my goal of becoming a superintendent.
Ive realized that it is a great thing to audit
oneself, something we know we should do, but we
dont. Coaching gave me strategies and a process
that was measurable and had an accountable focus.
17This is ridiculous. I already know what works.
I am too busy for this and I dont need something
thats going to waste my time.
I have grown most in my realization that stress
in my life comes primarily from the fact that my
perceived responsibilities and my personal values
are not in sync with each other. I am now
recognizing that stress doesnt have to be a
permanent state.
I have gained the confidence to create the life
that I want, not just to think about it. Through
the action planning process, I have come to
realize what I want and how to get it. I am now
coaching people on my staff and getting to see
successes in their lives.
Its a shame more people in our organization
dont volunteer to be coached. It has such a
high impact in terms of focus and results.

31Questions for Campuses to Consider
- How will we involve the majority of the staff?
- How will we customize our plan to fit our campus
needs? - When and where will our SPA be held?
- What will we do for our follow-up events? When
and where will our follow-up events be held? - Who will we involve or contract with to help
facilitate our SPA and/or train our staff? - What costs will we have for our SPA? How will
our money be spent?
32 The SPAssibilities
- Using a copy of Schedule PS3010, work to record
your ideas for each of the four areas to be
addressed in Year 1.
33SIP Academy - Years 2 and 3
- Campuses making sufficient progress in
implementing the goals and objectives of the
grant will be eligible for continuation grants
for up to two additional years as long as - a) the LEA ensures that the campus receives the
benefit of the pre-award and carryover provisions
for both the Title I SIP grant and SIP Academy
grant funds ensuring the campus has access to the
funds to implement the required activities in a
timely manner, - b) the campus is not carrying over a large
percentage of either the Title I SIP or SIP
Academy (after the first year) funds, and - c) the campus remains in school improvement
status and is served with Title I, Part A funds.
34SIP Academy - Years 2 and 3

second and third years of the grant cycle?
35SIP Academy - Years 2 and 3
- The four areas required for the first grant
years Summer Planning Academy (data
disaggregation, comprehensive needs assessment,
campus planning, and team building) are areas
essential and ongoing for any campus improvement.
It is expected that they will remain part of any
school improvement efforts however
36SIP Academy - Years 2 and 3
- In years 2 and 3 the primary focus of the grant
must be on on-going, systemic professional
development in the following areas - Continued team building for the staff on the
campus - Leadership, including but not limited to coaching
and mentoring - Instructional strategies identified by the data
disaggregation, needs assessment, and campus
planning processes and aligned to improve student
achievement and other outcomes identified

39SIP Academy - Years 2 and 3
- May the grant money be expended for resources,
supplies, and personnel to implement the plans
coming out of the Summer Planning Academy? - The SIP Academy grant may include other
strategies/activities in addition to the required
