Title: Are You My Neighbor
1Are You My Neighbor?
justify himself dikaiow to declare righteous,
to clear oneself of a charge
2Luke 1615
You are the ones who justify yourselves in the
eyes of men, but God knows your hearts. What is
highly valued among men is detestable in Gods
sight.
3Luke 189-14
To some who were confident of their own
righteousness and looked down on everybody else,
Jesus told this parable Two men went up to the
temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a
tax collector. The Pharisee stood up and prayed
about himself God, I thank you that I am not
like other menrobbers, evildoers, adulterersor
even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week
and give a tenth of all I get.
4Luke 189-14
But the tax collector stood at a distance. He
would not even look up to heaven, but beat his
breast and said, God, have mercy on me, a
sinner. I tell you that this man, rather than
the other, went home justified before God. For
everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and
he who humbles himself will be exalted.

Who is my enemy? The abortionist? The Hollywood
producer polluting our culture? The politician
threatening my moral principles? The drug-lord
ruling my inner city? If my activism, however
well-motivated, drives out love, then I have
misunderstood Jesus gospel. I am stuck with law,
not the gospel of grace. Philip Yancey
